Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why are there like a million comments that say: Get out while you can?

I don't understand these "get out while you can" comments on many threads. Can someone please explain? Are you being held hostage? Typically if you are surplussed, you get a severance. Why would you leave without that? If you are rebadged, you get nothing if you go or quit, so.... No wisea$$ answers please. Really want to understand what's behind comments like these. I must be missing something.

Good question @12WfFDho-iej . I understand this is the easiest and the most comforting thing to say for many at this point, but I also believe that most AT & T employees should be people that understand that it’s easier said than done, and that leaving without severance does more harm than use. So, what’s with the comments?

"but pay is good"
Except for it's not. We built our lifes in our community and going chasing better pay another place breaks to much at home. The execs take advantage of that keeping everyone scared while they slowly squeeze in the contractors and some of the town hall go so far to have a your garbage attitude toward workers

What all are suffering from is emotionally being whipped back and forth all the time with threats of layoffs, reduction of benefits, reorgs, and outsourcing.. Granted working at T is a free-will sort of thing but pay is good. It's just you're never know when it's your turn.

And from a much larger perspective, look at this December 2017 article about what's happening to the telecom industry as a whole. Everyone is being whipped-sawed because of what's described in the document. And you can wag the dog by it's tail from where you're at.

People are venting because this place is toxic. That shouldn't be so difficult to comprehend.

No one is suggesting that you walk into your manager's office and through your keys and employee badge at him and stomp out the door. Although I have heard of that happening around here.

But due to the toxic work environment, mismanagement and the fact that Randall wants to lay us all off eventually, everyone should be polishing their resume and looking for other opportunities. If you find something better before you get the ax, great! If not, hopefully you have some leads set up for when Randall does pull your number.

This company does not offer good, stable lifetime employment any more.

Oh I don’t know maybe because people don’t like living on the edge not knowing if you have a job quarter to quarter, and maybe since you come in and work your a– off you would expect some kind of stability. Just a few reasons that come to mind I am sure I can come up with more.

I believe it's mostly union employees trying to get managers to think its toast so bail, in hopes that you leaving saves their position somehow. I will not leave unless I get a severance package, and full benefits.
