Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T broke my teamwork spirit

AT&T broke my teamwork spirit. I turned into a person who stated "Give it to me and I'll care for it" I don't want others to know how I do the work. Give the worst most complex work and I'll do it with perfection and never complain. If others ask how I do it I just tell them its too hard to explain or demonstrate and its best I just care for it myself.
Collaboration is a means to optimal company performance but if the company isn't ethical then you have to default to looking out for #1 while providing premium service.

Maybe most of us know this very well, but @12MycWCM-xcv sure painted a good picture how the work environment at AT&T brings the worst in us.

When you become an expert/specialized person, you end up carrying the ball all the time. It's best when that knowledge is spread across a team; then they all improve. And vice-versa. Even thought it's unworkable at T, the collaboration/engagement zones were to enhance cross-pollination. And if a company executes this effectively, new ideas will result. T has yet to prove they are doing this well.

LOL sounds like ..There is no way you can replicate the success you had on project A because project B has preconditions C D E F. To apply the same methods used on A would be like pushing on a string to expect the same approach to be successful on project B.... therefor you need to implement new approaches X Y and Z . Let the Contractors figure it out that is what they are paid $10/day for.....

AT&T broke my teamwork spirit.

Pffft. You’re just using these layoffs as an excuse to horde knowledge. This is an attitude you’ve had prior to all this.

Yeah always loved my job in the field, still do, but I despise the company I work for. Why? Because it feels my own company works against me every single day. I know how to do my job , let me do it and I’ll be productive. Instead , they have me, a field technician, doing the work of a manager or dispatcher , or a clerk , or a parts inventory worker half the day. Why ? Well, because of course they’ve gotten rid of many of those that did those things and now a guy like me , who should be focused on a repair or an installation , is spending half the day on the laptop responding to emails , statusing everything, tracking everything , and just all kinds of b.s. In the bellsouth days, I cleared on average 6 tickets a day. Now I’m lucky if I have time to clear 3. All the micro managing and efficiency has made us less productive and efficient because we waste our time on constant training on how to be more productive and efficient. Unreal. So , they finally broke me. I now count myself among one of the “bellheads” who just try to make the metrics. Sorry , Mr. customer , I don’t have time to own your problems and clear them and make you happy. I’m busy being efficient and productive. On a spreadsheet anyway.

This is funny. I didn't put this post up as a single but I am the originator. I composed the original post as a posting feedback to another prev post many many weeks ago.

All of you are right....this is the new way at AT&T....give it to me and I'll do it, all while resisting to train others in unending hope of being the irreplaceable employee.

Will this mind set allow you to keep your job? Most likely not but at least when you get forced out of AT&T you have the satisfaction that you take your knowledge with you and in the end AT&T will suffer.

While at AT&T I was the happy Level 2 Manager who always had a smile. AT&T made me add a attribute of being a information & skills isolationist.

I'm not proud of what they turned me into but at least I screwed AT&T at every turn possible prior to them pushing me out. And............does Schaumburg still have a lingering smell........Ha Ha.

It's been like this a long time, however really started to creep into many areas of the business since about 2012. It's really sad when you have someone, or several operating just like that on your team. When you may really need feedback, help, show-me, or better yet, teach me, and not ever get it, and be completely ignored. Not only has little to no ethics in this company eroded that, along with CZ's, but the leadership starting with L3 (and supervising L2's) has fostered this Superman, A#1, only I can do it and all inside a vacuum type of toxic employee. The company makes a big deal about teams, yet we've all seen that meme that shows you the 'I' in the word team. It is all this that helps contribute to the toxic environment of AT&T. The team now that AT&T promotes, is that of consulting companies, and not its own.

I doubt he's that naive @ded. But he raises a good point. ESPECIALLY for those expected to train their replacements. RESIST!
