"Who in the world still has a landline...no one!"
“Copper in general is becoming more and more obsolete. I don't see how they make money on rural copper, so if they can find a s—er to sell or give away the copper, they should do it.”
Newsflash: At&t has way more copper terminations than fiber and that copper is being used to provide c-appy internet service as VDSL aka u-verse. So until att gets its head out of its a– and terminates fiber to all homes, you will still need wireline techs to support the copper plant, even if it’s just copper between the fiber node and the home.

I would suppose those that live in rural areas who have no or next to no cellular signal need some method to make emergency calls as mandated by the FCC.
Thus, wireline will exist until cellular coverage is 100%
Do the opposite of what the CWA proposes and the company will be fine
No one cares what CWA thinks or says.
I am dying laughing. Too true. Lets get behind people who can't think for themselves! Sounds like a great plan!!!
One area where we don't have enough information is whether or not wireline telephony makes money any more
Seriously, can you imagine how much it costs to maintain the wireline infrastructure...with no paying customers. Who in the world still has a landline...no one! Wireline is the biggest boat anchor out there. Verizon was genius for kicking it to the curb. Not sure how they did it. I thought the government required ATT to hire/keep union employees. If not, then why is wireline still here?

My guess is, the way to go is probably in the middle between Elliot and CWA. When AT&T bought Time Warner, they said it would be "accretive" to the dividend. In a world of declining and negative interest rates, AT&T stock has been buoyed by investors seeking income, so I do not see selling Warner.
Some of this other stuff, particularly wireline, CWA pointed out the best reasons to dump those assets, namely, when Verizon sold similar assets, the purchasers did badly. Why retain similar assets on AT&T's books, which drags the whole corporation down.
One area where we don't have enough information is whether or not wireline telephony makes money any more. They bundle these results into the "Entertainment Group". I think they're losing money, and getting rid of as much landline telephony as possible would help AT&T's results.

Way to go, digging up dirt on Elliott... and how many CWA members lost their jobs?
Just a “we’re behind you all the way” letter
