Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do you hate coming to work?

Is it just me or does it feel as thou ATT is making the techs hate coming to work in an attempt to quit? The level of incompetence from management in regards to scheduling, work load is something to admire...

Ashton, you can come out now. We are done being punked..

Why bother coming in when eventually we’ll all be outsourced or laid off.

Can’t wait to find out what’s in store for those of us in ATO MK org who are over 50 miles from nearest collaboration zone. The cr*phole I report to now I had to bring my own soap and toilet paper to make I had some to use! How fun is that to cart to the restroom in full view of everyone? I’m the only one from my team in this building also no reason to collab with anyone here! So I cut my day off at 8 hours and go home. Productivity ranked in this noise dirty crowded dump of a building

@ 8eqv - I'm right there with you in all regards, except I simply don't go in. I could, however only on extremely rare occasions I do (and only a few hours tops). I don't want to "office" at a place where I have to bring my own cleaning supplies, latex gloves and toilet paper, to avoid picking up illnesses. I don't even trust the air circulating in these buildings. I bet if a study was conducted, that you'd find a lot of the collaboration zones, have what's known as "sick building syndrome".

Despise is how I feel. After years of WFH I’m required to travel 35+ miles one way into a crowded, grimy office where the shared area is like working in a bus terminal. If it wasn’t for Clorox wipes I’d probably have dysentery from the carpet, chairs & desks.

I hate coming to work. I check this site daily for an inkling into what is happening and hoping I get surplussed. I have no faith in senior leadership in ATO. Tough to be engaged and go the extra mile when you’re being jerked around. There is no one from my team in my city. I go to a disgusting office with leaks, vermin, broken a/c, always out of soap and toilet paper. The only way my attitude changes is if there is a voluntary severance offer and I get it. I need to work a little longer but with severance would not have to. How the heck can they expect to attract and retain younger talent to this dump

Yes. I almost was run off tge road this morning on the highway, walked a few blocks in the sizzling heat to the building & just found an open desk to sit at. Looked down on the floor & there’s a dead bug. Sadly I can’t collaborate with him.

As an Ameritech employee that endured the assimilation by the borg, it is almost enjoyable to see the management hate for its subordinates has finally stretched to the small recesses of those that drank the corporate kool aid and labeled the rest of us as complainers. I hope every office dweller feels the level of hate from management that us in craft felt for years. Enjoy purgatory.

Signed happily retired...

Too funny and I have the same sentiment as last poster. I’ve had 3 field managers, and 6 level 2 and level 3 managers come and go. I’m still here doing the same job. Every month they’re chasing a new metric. This month it’s the three cone rule. Last month it’s idle time. I keep doing what I’ve always done. I refuse to let their silly little reindeer games stress me out. It stresses them out. Guess what. At&t took the bonus away us techs used to get every year from bellsouth. That to me just means I no longer have to stress the metrics.

Meh, I don't hate coming to work and the management shenanigans don't bother me since its been my experience that they are under way more pressure to perform and their necks are on the line more now than ever. I just wait them them out because they either get canned, get replaced, move to another org, quit from the stress or die of old age. I keep a score of downed managers like an ace fighter pilot.

Some brown-nosing scabs might act like this is the way that jobs are supposed to be, but no one should have to be dreading coming into work. The company is favoring managers who make a special effort to pressure and bully employees, to get under people's skin so that you can't even focus on getting the job done right and safe. At this point I'm just sticking around hoping for a strike just to help a movement against this toxic environment. But when my manager is making it his mission to give guys panic attacks, it gets harder to last, it becomes a question of do I want to keep this job or keep my mental health intact. The company wants it this way; choose one or the other, can't have both.

Yes. After 9 years of WFH, I am made to drive 45 miles 2 times a day to fight for parking, walk blocks on end lugging my equipment, jockeying for a place to sit in a loud, dirty, germ infested office. I was told it’s to collaborate, however no one from my team is there! I’m doing as little as possible to stay off the radar. Hate every minute of it.

Everything lately that comes across my desk is an expedite or emergency!! Things have become very stressful on all of us. We are having to take directions from several different managers, who do not even know what each other does. We are becoming micro managed as well. I realize that is the way it is before a big group surplus, but still. It is just a way to make us miserable so we will quit.

In Northwest Arkansas we have already had approximately 10 Prem Techs quit and move to better jobs because of over bulk loading, being pushed to be faster, and not allowed to take any time off for anything. This forcing us to work 6 days a weeks without any say is complete bs! It cracks me up to see emails from higher up people talking and asking people to be a part of their cancer team, etc when I cannot even take an additional hour to take my daughter for her first day of first grade at school without getting written up or get verbally reprimanded or harassed for even asking. We do have some real winners for managers and are getting ready to lose even more techs because of it.

1st levels will be fired this week for not ordering supplies to complete scheduled work. 2nd levels are to be demoted to toilet cleaner for incompetence. This is upper managements decision.

Who ever is “forecasting” needs a new job because they are doing a piss poor job at it. And to blame it on “growing pains” just means we have the wrong people in charge that don't know what they are doing... Incompetence runs rampant amongst ATT.

So glad to be away from the Bell Side and the constant micromanagement and nitpicking from managers. All they care about is making your job miserable because they can’t stand the fact that technicians actually like their jobs. I certainly don’t miss being threatened with disciplinary action because our manager isn’t making Youachieve or getting the bonus they want.

Scheduling technicians is based on forecasted work volumes and completion rates. Is it ever perfect? Nope. Too many variables. Do we try? Yes. I’m not sure what pressures the field management is facing but we’re all working in a rapidly changing industry. We’re just here during the growing pains.

Stressful how? Don’t even remember a metric other than safety as a young tech back then. Older techs went to the local test board or they put them on long term projects stenciling terminals. No competition for business, pricing was based on negotiations with state commissions as to how much they would allow you to raise prices. Biggest issue was there were Directors every 50 miles who were more likely to pop up in the field. If you understood tip and ring, and had a pair of dykes and a screwdriver in your tool pouch you could do 90% of the outside work. Different world.

Not really... I grew up on a farm and know what it feels like to work hard for very little so every day with AT&T has been gravy. You just need to control the controllable and stop worrying about what leadership thinks or does... it’s not like you can do a d@mn thing about it anyways so stop losing sleep over it. Enjoy your coworkers and work hard.

This place is a toxic work environment.

AT&T and the Baby Bells always were stressful, micromanaged places to work; but there were rewards for coming to work every day. Even with all the stress, employees were proud of their jobs and AT&T could brag about its extremely low employee turnover.

Randall has seen to it that those days are over. At Randall's AT&T everyone is over worked, worried for their future, and burned out in general. There is no longer a reward at the end of the rainbow for a life of hard work at this place, it's now just a toxic sweatshop environment to come in to every day until you are eventually let go.
