I know one 40 year veteran of one of the recent Schlumberger Smith acquisition who was called in to meet HR in the morning and told to sign the release papers and then escorted out of the building. What a humiliation and payback for 40 years of... — read more
Cool off?
In your opinion, should the mass layoffs cool down a little now that the Q4 earnings have been announced? The earnings reported 9,000 layoffs. I know there will probably still be more but I'm wondering if we can expect it to cool down some.
How low can SLB go?
Yes, my view of this company is lower now than ever. Released from one of the Houston area locations yesterday. The low part is, I was 8 days short of being officially eligible for retirement (30+ years). No early retirement package offered, and no... — read more
Are any employees (not contract workers) being offered a severence?
Have any laid off workers who are vested employees being offered severances OR what are the early retirement terms? Can some one mention?
Ponca City Updates
Does anyone know what's happening at Ponca City at this point? We saw a thread on Sugar Land (blood bath) but was curious how brutal they will go at Ponca City

W.A.R.N. Act
How is SLB getting away with not adhering to the WARN notification act? Just google it.
Blood Bath
I hear it's been a blood bath at the Houston area product centers this week. 20 at HPC yesterday, 47 more at SRC today. Any idea how many in Sugarland and Rankin Rd?
No comments, no noise
I am appalled that people are not voicing their opinion here or anywhere else. We are going through a major reduction in force that has been poorly handled in terms of planning and treatment of people. And there are no positions or opinions noted... — read more
Lots of lay offs and lots more to come, all done unprofessionally
I got laid off yesterday from Sugar Land working on development of a new project, they fired most of the manufacturing department, numerous engineers and some of the testing people. I personally am a visa holder and have been in the US a year, I was... — read more
Take the early retirement
Saw several folks leave recently and take the early retirement. It's that or you'll see your position disappear and yourself. They are cutting everyone who makes good money + long time service.
SMITH BITS
Any information on the Smith Bits facilty in Ponca City ok rumors are flying but nothing offical
Current SLB Cuts
No surprises from Schlumberger at all as they have always adhered to the business mantras of "Headcount" and "Budget". The fall in crude oil prices coincided with their yearly budget preparations and the easy option to coping with projected revenue... — read more
WesternGeco
The fleet size was downsized to 9 from 15 survey vessels. In addition, we cut 2 source boats, now we have only 6.
SLB are firing anybody that moves and is above 40
They just started targeting +40 year olds as they are the ones earning higher salaries - there is no future in a company like SLB.
Layoffs
Houston area product centers getting hit with layoffs today for the 2nd time in a month. Far as I can tell, its not project related, but specific people across the board.
GeoSolutions?
Does anyone know about any significant cuts/layoff plans for Geophysicist, seismic data processors, etc. It seems like we have a ton of work but I know they could always lay off some and give more work to the others they keep. "Do more with less."
Shop shut down
The wireline shop in Weston, WV has officially been layed off. They are finishing up jobs assigned to them, and then EVERYONE will have the option to go up to the Bradford, Pa shop or leave the company. A lot of guys there work in WV and live in... — read more
WesternGeco marine seismic fleet layoffs
We had large cuts at WesternGeco marine seismic fleet last year, 2015 will be even worse. It's very hard to find talent in this area and we lost many good folks that we will not be able to replace once the prices bounce and things start to improve... — read more
Early retirement package offer
Can someone tell us what kind of an offer was given to older employees
Layoffs (Rankin Rd. Facility)
Layoffs have been announced for the Rankin Rd. manufacturing facility. Older workers are being offered early retirement, and hours have been cut to 40 for all hourly positions.
Any hiring right now? It sounds pretty dismal here...
I am very interested in getting a job with Schlumberger but was curious about possible career paths. I have a B.Sc. with a major in Biology (not super relevant, took mostly environmental/ecology courses) and a 2-year technical diploma in... — read more
Older workers
Did you notice that older workers are either laid off or they are asked go into early retirement. I think this is a pretty consistent practice at SLB
It all boils down to one thing

Advisor Layoff (Sugar Land)
An "Advisor" level person with impeccable credentials got the boot recently. He was in logging interpretation in Sugar Land. Guess no one is safe.
Very Short Sighted
The experts seem to think oil prices will continue to dip well into 2015. Likely there will be more layoffs. Still, it's short sighted. The unemployment rate in Houston is low in Engineering. When the recovery happens, SLB will have to look at other... — read more

Disloyal SLB - Uninspiring

Schlumberger Information Systems is going through layoffs right now - I am really surprised to see no messages here?
Short Sighted
It's strange that a couple big companies are laying off yet I'm getting calls from headhunters everyday. I see potentially good news for ex and soon to be ex-SLB employees. There are companies out there who will take advantage of the talent hitting... — read more
