Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

We're all being worn down which is exactly what upper management wants

The layoffs will not end until they've reached their number. Their hope is to beat people down by making them commute to work so they'll quit, or names will show up on some report of too much VPN, not enough badge swipes, not enough mouse movement, who knows at this point. We're all being worn down which is exactly what upper management wants. Collect the check, do my job & ride it out is what I plan to do. We're all just sitting ducks at this point.

Thought this was well said by @XdGB7Bc-2cmh

@3rjv if I saw anything that resembled a bed bug I'd walk out & call the health department immediately. That is disgusting and those things travel.....picking it up on your shoe you'd bring it in your home. How utterly disgusting.

Not to mention bed bugs shutting down Conn office and seen in NJ also.....Reported seen in bathrooms but nothing done about that we are aware of.....Maybe this is also part of the master plan to make working conditions in the office so bad inhumane leave on their own while at the same time spending millions to build new collaboration spaces.....is this too a ruse.....

Might as well not bother with going in the office if the list has already been made?

It’s because they like to squat over a hole when they p--p, just like in the old country. Just need to remove the toilets and leave the hole open. Problem solved. Come on people, I’m looking for problem solvers with positive attitudes here.

The issue is that there is no assigned seating. There are no places to sit. The collab zones are loud and very difficult places to work

Add to the fact that the offices are downright filthy due to the fact that certain people don’t understand proper hygiene. Washing their mouths in the break room sinks, defecating on the bathroom floors, etc. There are probably more germs in an AT&T Collab zone than a hospital which is disinfected regularly. And probably multiple OSHA violations...

This is simply a war of attrition being fought by our own Company against us, their own employees.

As IEFS former DTV, we are subject to daily forced overtime to accommodate same day drop ins at 5 in the evening, put on 6 day weeks with 24 hour notices at best, told to commute unpaid for distances up to 70 miles - on site by eight mate! Leave in the dark, get home in the dark.

To say nothing of the equipment shortages of the past year that is forcing us to reuse equipment from previous customers and going as far as to take equipment off peoples houses that no longer use our service just to have an lnb to install on some new s---er's place.

Supposedly refurbished Genies that still have the previous users recordings on the drive - impressive to a new install customer especially if the former user was a p--n addict.

In our roof walker minds, we see this is a deliberate effort by AT&T to debase and discredit the DirecTV side of their business laying the groundwork for either spinning us off, forcing us to quit in disgust, or set the stage for a propaganda campaign to champion streaming over direct delivery so s---ers will buy their OTT box.

While blatantly obvious to us on the ground, I am still amazed when one of our revolving door of Area Managers comes to our shop and after pointing out our great NPS scores, and CRIFT scores and completion ratios ,etc, then has the temerity to ask - "why are so many of you guys quitting?"

Why?

Because while we may crawl your attic, or wiggle under your double wide, we were once people with pride in our work and had a company that appreciated that effort.

You are not that company.

I work in an ATO collab zone. Recently, they implemented this policy that every level 2 team lead (or whatever they call themselves now... the person I talk to once a month who is responsible for my end of year) has to have positive control of one, or more, Scrum Teams for Hire.

Y'all, I had four bosses at one point. It's Office Space in real life. Autonomy? I barely knew her!

@cfb, there is a third option, he’s just simply lying!

The benefit you got, as did I, and every other WFH were offered or given this benefit for a reason.....being a lousy, lazy slacker was not at the top of the list. On many nights we work late hours when an overseas call makes it necessary, and up 5 for a 6 am conference call to Japan.

I’m sure he spins the old tale, "I walked to school, five miles....uphill....in the snow, both way!"

The truth is, he never had the opportunity to WFH, or was never offered.....but, if it WAS offered to him, convince us he wouldn’t grab it in a New York minute!

iDesktop which was installed on ATO laptops certainly does track if the mouse doesn't move for longer than one minute. Insanity at it's finest.

@XfswSVN-grt: I am not saying that they "do" track mouse movement, but in fact you can. I was part of a research project in college concerning remote authentication of users via mouse movements. You absolutely CAN track and record mouse movement remotely.

"...not enough mouse movement..." - sorry but THAT was hysterical. Best line of the day. But I don't doubt you - as anything's possible these days. >: (

The best system support teams I have ever seen were in the U.S. and co-located. The least efficient Inhave ever seen work from home and assume that putting in extra hours equals extra results.

The company is quickly dying and needs to transform the way we work to be competitive.

@yiq well based on the hat at that level my group will be gone. We do system support, we are spread out and we don't collaborate. Sad that management thinks one size fits all.

You aren't wearing the level 5 and above hat.

If you aren't having face to face meetings it's because you're not in the right collaboration zone for your area of productivity. If your entire work function is geographically dispersed and nobody needs to work face to face with other teams, that's a prime function to offshore.

You have to think like they do to see the value in this b---s---.

WFH does allow a great balance of home/family life, the ability to work in peace & quiet and do extra work when needed. Making people go into an office using collaboration as the reason is nothing but a load of c-ap. No one I know has had any face to face meetings AT ALL. Stuck in a dirty, noisy office, jockeying for a seat, additional commuting costs, stressed from avoiding an accident on the busy roads, all for what we will never know. Collaboration zones, more like zombie pits.

@qcl "I commuted 30 miles to work for 38 years. What's the issue?" AKA "I never had this benefit, and then had it removed, so I was never affected. What's the issue?"

I commuted 40 miles for 15 years, and for the past 8 have had the added benefit of WFH, which has allowed me to see my family more, AND work much more, late nights, weekends, etc. If you fail to see how having a benefit, then having it removed is an issue you aren't being very forthcoming, or thoughtful.

There should not be any issue to commute to work for the ones in Collaboration zone. anyways new job also won’t allow WFH all the time.
