Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Are you being pressured?

I am disturbed by the amount of people I have heard from, that are either being asked 'what will it take to make you stay' or, because they've told their manager they volunteered, the manager took it upon themselves to ask for them to be held until March.

This is not right. People may have thought they were just being courteous when they told their managers they were volunteering, but it's coming back to bite them!

How many posters believe the decision is completely out of the hands of these managers/supervisors? In other words, can a manager beg the director to keep someone and that would be adhered to?

@3jqb and they will STILL have this with the InfoSys contract. A manager at InfoSys and a manager at VZ.

Vdsi wireless is very much pressurised... All ppt managers and redundant roles.. Don't know why we have manager, senior manager. Delivery head and senior delivery head.. On top again onshore manager. Associate director. Dev manager.. Director.. Executive director... Too many redundant roles which are not required.. Vdsi should be asked to report to onshore.. No need of delivery head when we have director in US..

All managers know who clicked. Director and manager let one of his trusted ones know they knew. So no secrets trust me.

News about new jersey teams and subsidiaries being blind and clueless is CONFIRMED by contacts in multiple locations. Shankar favors old wireleine friends based in Texas. So others should plan to jump ship

It is the usual VZ S%$# show featuring many of the same characters from earlier shows. My boss was also asked "what will it take?." but after what they have done to him it would take a lot to keep him. Sadly it seems that while the new leaders have lots of drive and intensity, they have very little understanding of the US telecom market, how to play here or how to make any new money from it. The recent presentations are the best something right out of "The Office". Lots of buzz-word bingo, but we have no real seriously competitive go-to-market products other than our stellar Wireless and FiOS products. Oath is a really bad, ill-timed bad-joke, and the 'Business' lines have been BSing for years about 'what they will do', but never seem to be able to do despite having an absolute kick-a$$ network to build off of. So who knows what the future holds? Certainly NO ONE at the company least of all the C-suite.

Some teams in New Jersey are clueless, but some in Texas seem to have access to all the decisions made by the upper echelon. There seem to be a lot of bias here. For a company that was running "training" for "inherent bias" this is as crazy as it gets. Is this legal ?

I was asked "what would it take for you to stay?" but not pressured. I explained my reasoning, said there was zero chance I'd change my mind and that was it. Now with each passing hour there's something that further reinforces that leaving is the right decision.

Heard from VDSI team that in Texas team members who opted are being personally asked to revoke.

My manager asked if I was confident about my decision with no regrets. In the next breath, they proceeded to tell me that they were excited for me and the opportunity. I just wished that I didn't have to wait 4 more weeks to find out for certain that I'm gone.

Verizon has been sued and lost previously over the EISP offer selection process. I believe if you want to go you will be allowed.

If "too many" people took it in certain groups, it means one of two things. You kept a bunch of people down in the same position for too long or you have a group with a bunch of fundamental flaws coming, most likely, from poor management. Can they beg? Yes! How should you respond? Take the money and run!

Can a manager beg? Yes

Can a director listen and take it to their next level? Yes if they want to risk it.

Will the way up SVP care? Probably not a bit unless they are all buds and want to risk it in this environment.

i did hear they are being asked to reconsider and some are thinking about it. I don't believe they are throwing money or anything like that but more so the future of the business and that its not going anywhere.

I just think too many ppl took it in certain groups and others not enough. SO they still have a business to run and its not going anywhere.

So, what lower to mid-level manager or supervisor has the power to give anyone anything in this? They have no power of the purse to give you more money. Promotions are virtually non-existant. What on earth could they do to actually sway anyone??

I am disturbed that you are wasting time, talking to lots of people, reading and posting on this board and not getting any work done. Get back to work and increase the price of my stock.

IMHO, the decision is being made up higher- Director or above. Those making the decisions have targets to meet, but can get feedback from managers that are remaining (if a manager has opted in, they get zero input).

If it were up to direct report managers, I'll likely be denied. My manager is leaving, and his replacement doesn't want me to leave. He is encouraging me to train replacements, so I don't believe he has enough sway to change upper management's mind.

I heard no one who volunteered stays past 12/28 without business case justification and SVP approval and that justification has to be more than just needing more time for job training. We'll see how it goes, though.
