Thread regarding BD (Becton Dickinson & Co.) layoffs

I'm so confused

Can somebody PLEASE state if they've started notifying people already or if the layoffs will start sometime next week or at some other point in the future? The lack of available information is stressing me out, to put it mildly.

@v7 this happens across the organization and can only be stopped if we can remove people
from the top first. Otherwise, dishonest leadership will save their partners in crime. There are many so called “leaders” who have no idea of what their teams do.

Do you know some “leaders” have financial interest in using some vendors? Imagine getting $10 per developer we hire from vendors and do the math.

I worked for BD for 4 years and was laid off in May along with quite a few of my co-workers. Management is a joke. They hire supervisors and above who have no knowledge of electronics. They only reason they got the job is because they are friends of a higher up. They do not promote within the company. They have people that are more then qualified to lead. This company has no future. One of the most disorganized companies I have ever worked for. They would have been better off laying off all management and promoting from the bottom up. The workers are the ones who know the job would able to run the company more efficiently. And HR is useless because they laid off all the competent HR employees and the ones left have no idea how to help anyone.

@OP people who were impacted received an invitation to a Thursday morning meeting last week about "organizational change". Typically these invites are just to the employee, their supervisor/manager and a level above and sometimes with HR. As I understand it more will happen this week of Oct 20 and more will come after restructuring changes are announced after the Biosciences/Diagnostic spinoff. It's a dumpster fire, led by the wrong people, looking after the wrong things. But hey - that's now the BD Way.. layoff/outsource/consult - no need for anyone who knows what they are doing - we just need project managers and VP's....hahaha. Happy to have been RIF'd last week. Taking the money and running.

@de wow! That’s exactly my thought. How could a company have jokers at leadership role? This company is doing su----e.

BD’s main problem is culture, there is hardly anyone good at leadership level. “BD Way” means promoting mediocrity and that is why even the most talented folks become “useless” within 2 years.

Remove useless bas**ta-d$$, you will see the improvement.

@c3 although I generally agree with you, cogs is not calculated using overhead in corporate. That bring said we do not compete on cogs with foreign manufacturers. Anyone who tells you that doesn't actually know the numbers. We have let ourselves slip over decades and everyone has caught up and we cant justify our price any longer. The organization has chased short term goals vs long term stability.

Take a look at stock performance since Tom Polen took over from Vince. Why this guy is still at the helm is beyond reason. The senior leadership is unable or unwilling to do what is needed to turn the ship. When COVID happened it was a windfall, but customers were forced to buy other brands and when they did, they realized the other brands that are half the cost of BD are just as good. BD has rested on the brand recognition and poor leadership led to what you are seeing. When you can buy a syringe from a third party and private label it as "BD" for less money than it costs to make the item, you know something is very wrong. It is not the US plants and labor costs as these BD plants are super efficient and world class. It is the bloated overhead loaded onto the cost of goods that is ki-ling BD. The fat cats sitting in FLKS surrounded by their art museum, asking their procurement team to bring suppliers in who have thin margins and pound them for pennies while surrounded by opulence. It is a shame what the leadership of BD has done to that once great company. Long past time for Good Ol Tom to hit the street and go ruin another company.

Big cuts in US Region. Entire teams let go with varying dates of termination. Very upsetting for all. Tony Ezell held a call in the morning and then a second call late afternoon for those that are not part of the rif.

Yes, many meetings yesterday and loads of folks laid off and let building same day. I know of folks in several departments in different states who lost their jobs yesterday. Even their supervisors were not notified in advance and had 50% of their direct reports terminated

At least 10 colleagues I know got impacted, all TGS. There is a bloodbath but those whose inefficiencies put the company in this state, are still there. Corporate is a joke! We must remove all DEI and those who aligned themselves with their DEI supporter boss. A third party should conduct a skill test for each role, and only those who pass should stay.
