They seriously included this in emails about layoffs? I know nobody really bothers reading these anymore but they aren’t even trying anymore.

Quotes from the top of the house in executive leadership meetings “people are no longer our most valuable asset, our processes are” and “I’m willing to ratchet down every business until to breaks to find the real bottom”. Let that sink in.
It's true - assets can be (and are being) written off after producing profits for the company.
It's not personal, just business.

As OP says, it's almost like they want to leave the worst possible taste in everyone's mouths.

People are the not assets - they are opex and opex must be reduced. Most are not oil finders, or value generators. Only a few actually generate value. The rest is cost/opex
If you think you are untouchable, I promise - you aren't. No one matters and if your job isnt at a refinery: boots on the ground - your days are numbered.
