Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

MTech layoff/ NCR outsource

I found outlast week (5 years after outsource), that our outsource was planned for 6 months prior to our layoffs. I was a field Tech in the stores. All of the area Managers knew. They thought they were keeping their jobs! ( Big surprise, they were all let go). Several Analysts in the field knew, they were showing NCR around the stores, after hours when we were off.

The reason for this post, warning to the stores. Planned layoffs are being cemented now before Q3. Watch your back. Not that you can stop the process.....be prepared. Get your resume dusted off and updated. Pull any docs you need off of your personal drive now. Do not trust your supervisor to tell you the truth if you question your job security with the company. Trust noone! Good luck!

@jq NCR is pretty worthless in terms of what their techs can do. This isn't Walmart where you only need to replace card readers.

That's not right your MBA has floor departments. I can see having AYS, but not responsibility for a.sales floor departments. That's ridiculous.

@t5+1k4bz3wre I'm very surprised your MBA has so much floor managerial responsibility. Ours does AYS and that's it along with the other office stuff.

@pr Our store has 1 SMM, 1 MBA and 1 CSX plus the store manager. The MBA has RTW, Men’s and Home. SMM has all merch, receiving, and AYS. CSX has Beauty, FJ and Shoes. We have a couple captains who do executive functions in the store and work so hard. Our entire team, associates and executives work diligently because they care. Come January, Macys won’t give 2 craps about us when our doors close. It’s a shame.

Would be a shame if one of you sabotaged the POS systems before you left.

Stores that were 20M and under lost their OOM with the cuts in Jan 2024. My store has store manager, MBA, SMM, and 2 CX manager. I can't see how you could get much smaller

@eg Roles will be combined, and managers will be reduced. Hold on tight folks - Tony is just getting started.

Yeah I was part of MTech Field Services at that time also. I definitely do not put it past them that this was planned ahead of
Time. Actually the Field Service team was almost downsized in 2016 but was delayed as no agreement could be made until 2019, I know a high level Manager who was part of the process. NCR was not happy about having to bring on a number of Macys Tech people and thought their current CEs could cover the account. They tried pilot locations and the CEs failed badly until we joined. Not many of us legacy Technicians are left with NCR. The stores are no better so always be prepared and expect the unexpected.

I have a feeling they will try to reduce the number of salaried managers , feeling either the MBA or OOM roles might be on the chopping block or on the combo block this year

Not true

The only safe job is the lowly sales associate role. C suites can’t get paid if they don’t have customer facing roles.

@OP You are absolutely right. Macy’s has always been shady with regards to layoffs. I hate how we always have to hold our breath after the holidays to see who is going to be without a job when the new year fiscal starts . Divisionals always know months ahead of time and in many cases, store managers know weeks ahead, while walking around with the peaches and cream attitudes to ensure we end 4th quarter and inventory with some resemblance to a smooth running operation. I’m anxious to see the impact this year with announcements of store closures and restructuring. Yes, get prepared because Tony’s Bold New Chapter is about to hit HARD.
