RTO: No One is Safe: Yes, You with the Accommodation

RTO updates are causing a lot of anxiety — especially for FT telecommuters. Signs definitely point to a stricter in-office push.

Worth noting: if you have an ADA accommodation (like ADD/ADHD), the in-office FAQ on The Source suggests they’ll “accommodate” by seating you somewhere less distracting and giving you noise-cancelling headphones — not by keeping you remote.

Some exceptions may exist, but don’t count on it. Remote workers and those with accommodations should both be concerned.

@OP please continue to offshore. The employee base in our company is toxic.

@ry - File an EEOC charge of discrimination. What this director said is a clear violation of the ADA.

Read "Billesdon v. Wells Fargo Securities". Truist will learn the hard way by getting sued by employees with disabilities

@ar Directorette Jenny said in her vanity vlog last Friday that she views the ADA accomodations as people trying to find a way avoid the RTO. I hope someone with good standing sues and gets that video in front of a jury.

What makes it even better is she equates people asking for an accommodation to her kids making excuses. Nice to know she looks at professional engineers as children cosplaying as adults.

@kt Eff off with that nonsense KT. I bet your tune would change if you were over 55 miles from the nearest ops center and had been working from home SUCCESSFULLY for over 10 years. Mind your own pathetic business.

Go back to the office and deal with it or leave. This place is a cesspool anyway so maybe just do like they want and leave on your own so they don’t have to pay severance; it is a win win.

@kt Ohhh, so the issue isn’t really the remote work — it’s that someone else got a deal you didn’t. Got it. Classic cry baby jealous hater.Maybe instead of crying about what others may have been smart enough to negotiate, you could try negotiating better for yourself next time. Some people actually have valid reasons for being remote, others like you just have too much time scrolling through posts they clearly weren’t invited to comment on. You must be an absolute joy at the office.

@OP Good!! My issue with all of the return to office mandates is all of the exceptions for teammates to remain remote. It’s very unfair. The number of miles you chose to live from the office or number of kids you chose to have shouldn’t give you special treatment. If I have to be in the office 5 days a week then so do you!

@ae My location currently does not have the ‘swipe out’ feature at its door but I feel like it will be coming to all locations. We found out our building is getting some cosmetic upgrades. How much do you want to bet that will include us having to badge out?

SunTruist worried about reputational risk? That’s funny!

@OP ok. Lets suppose the ADA accomodation is to be in a secluded area and now there are no secluded areas left? Do you really think Suntruist is going to yank the accomodation of an ADA covered individual? Do you think they will take on the reputational risk if said
teammate gets fired? Now, those non ADA accomodations for IBS and anxity would and should be yanked (I know several teammates with both such accomodations).

I unfortunately have to hang around 1 more year as I’ve been working here 4 years and will not leave until I become fully vested in the pension. So for that year, I’m going to be a good little corporate soldier. After I complete my 5 yr anniversary , I’m gone !

@ag I completely agree with everything you say, and truth be told , people should be penalized if the ‘work’ and online activity they do at home is a result of a mouse jiggler or scheduling phantom meetings . I’m full time remote and I work about 12 hours a day and would fully welcome them seeing my activity and what I do . People that aren’t ’working’ at home are exactly the problem.
That being said, although I realize they have a report for where laptops are being connected, I think for now they’ll be satisfied seeing 5 days in office - even if only for a few hours a day. But again, they keep pushing back the goal post so we shall see.

There is already reporting monitoring network connections. Your laptop connected in the office for half the day and then VPN the second half: you end up on the report. No network connection in consecutive 5 days: you end up on the report. The question is not IF they will monitor network connections, it is WHAT they do with that information.

Just remember you are not as sneaky as you think you are, IT knows a lot and they also know about your mouse jiggler and your phantom teams meetings with no one else in there. There are no secrets it is just how management decides to take action.

@aa This is exactly what happened when they pushed for three days, then four… and now five. Everyone knows it’s just a tactic to trim headcount and avoid paying severance.

I don’t know a single person who actually stuck to the four-day mandate for a full eight hours a day. Just like the previous rollouts, people will comply for a few weeks, maybe a couple of months, and then it fades out. The bank achieves its goal of shedding salaries, and employees gradually return to doing what works best for them.

They can’t really track how long you’re in the office based on a swipe — at least not in my location. You swipe in, but there’s no swipe-out. Sure, they can monitor logins remotely, which is another conversation altogether, but for now, they’re content with seeing that swipe.

Bottom line: everyone just needs to ride this out until the bank hits whatever internal target they’re chasing — whether it’s voluntary resignations or “compliance optics.” After that, things usually level out again. Just my two cents, based on experience.

@a5 Coming in and getting a badge swipe and then leaving at lunch will not work for you either. They will be monitoring badge swipes specifically for teammates that are doing just this type of behavior. You will be required to work the day in the office. You will end up on an exceptions report and could potentially end up getting corrective actions against you. Also teammates now can report other teammates that they see not following the new guidelines. They are not having exceptions so I suggest if you need your job prepare to stay the full day as required.

Just remember, you are not as unique and special as you think you are. And then remember you chose to work here. And finally remember you trade your time for money so if you want money go into the office like Sir Bill commands.

Im full time remote, but cant afford to lose my job or get laid off over this . Unfortunately, I’ll end up going in , getting my swipe and will come back home at lunch. Not happy about it at all as I imagine most people aren’t, but it is what it is.
