Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Applying internally is pointless

Before, if you worked hard here, asked the right questions, and applied when a better role opened up, you had a real shot. Lately, that hasn't been the case. It's like all the internal postings are advertised just for the sake of appearances, while the roles are already reserved for pre-selected candidates. Tell me I'm wrong.

@10z I wont hold anything against those who worked at Ulta Beauty as IBM can use them to put lipstick on a Pig.

@10t heehee IBM wannabe apprentice. I saw more than 1 IBM newbie go to GSS IBM Global Sales School where they are told "...you are the smartest people on the planet..." and then pop out as "sales leaders". They are very much like very early AI in that when you ask them a question, they answer you by word smithing back the question you just asked them! I was ROTFL when I saw a bunch of them be put in front of customers to do a product overview etc and I SWEAR TO GOD they read the Powerpoint speaker notes never looking up, never looking at the audience. It was friggin embarassing and unreal. Many of them 6 months ago were bartenders or working the Ulta Beauty counter. And that is 100% truth (which means this post will soon fade to black).

@10c downvote these things but its true. You steal, do nothing and don't go in to work.

Not really a difficult argument. Downvoting doesn't change the reality that younger new fresh ones are replacing.

@109 hey "Toad In The IBM Hole", IBM's sc--wed up management laid off all the hard workers in the US and they think they are going to replace them so easily with resumes from untrained tech people who do nothing and yet aspire to be successful ? Think again...no self respecting techie wants to come to work for IBM these days. The word IBM on one's resume doesn't open the same doors to hiring as it used to many years ago...you are lucky if it gets you into the corporate outhouse these days.

IBM is now considered as the kiss of death to a good technical career. All these Indian executives can do is cheap knockoff presentations that the clients don't understand and will not buy into any more. And the word gets around...very quickly. Have you seen the IBM stock price today ? down again...

@109 Those "new tech grads" will be happy until they realize all they're doing is contributing to PowerPoint presentations. Because at IBM nothing is real--it's all just a big frigging presentation.

That's why I do nothing, or as little as I can. I also steal everything I can. Actual IBM work is what I do in my breaks between coffee, food, and elimination. LOL

Don't bother. They see all the posts about not wanting to go to work, have 60,000 resumes from new tech grads that will go to work asap.

You did it to yourselves if you won't do what the company asks then think you deserve positions

@rg who the f--k are you to tell anyone to go and find another job on this board ? Who died and made you God ? If the IBM management cannot manage their employees, it is their own fault.

Why don't you go and find a different site to wallow in ? Although your buddies Alvind, Robbie the Hood and Krabanaugh might not like it, the US allows for free speech. If you don't like it, don't do bad things and then ask for comments to be removed - that is censorship. It works both ways.

@rt would you rather we call you "toad in the hole" or just "toadface" ? Don't you respect Alvind any more since he has Gorilla Glue stuck to his azz as Chairman ?

Or are you busy indulging in the nefarious tastes of "Robbie the Hood" as in the kneel and deliver position ? Or preparing for dropping the soap on a rope trick in the communal showers ?

Or are you brown nosing again with Krabanaugh and Joanne Wrong ?

@rp

Why do you keep calling me Arvind's pet? I deeply Respect Arvind but I speak for myself. Someday I will be an Executive and I will be powerful and need to make the hard decisions too. But I will fire Anyone who makes inappropriate remarks about IBM without hesitation Mr Gerstner deserves Better than this.

@rg Oooh watch out...Alvind's pet is big mad guys.

I work for IBM but I dont represent them. I actually have morals and a sense of ethics...something IBM executives lost decades ago.

@r4

Really? Now we're back to homophobic comments? This is no way for an IBM representative to talk. If you work at IBM then you represent IBM whether you like it or not. If you don't like it, find a different job.

Even if you succeed in moving, it's really just moving from prison cell A to prison cell B. You might get to shower with a new group but you still better not drop that soap. Much better to be released.

From experience looking to move internally especially when given RA not is like a snowball chance in h*ll

applying internally is risky

  • apply
  • hiring manager needs to inform at some point current manager.
  • if you do not move at the next layoff current manager know that you want to move- so keep the one what truly want to be in the group

@OP you are 110% right. The roles are to pretend to everyone, but especially external job seeking candidates that IBM is a place of opportunity.
It certainly is, if you are looking for the experience of RA's, Layoffs, PIPS and the experience to debase oneself personally at the hands of Arvind Krispy Kreme, his Pipmunks and their managers. Indians are given the management opportunities, US employees are simply there to enhance the office space.
Most managers in IBM, especially those in the IBM CIO and Consulting are nothing short of the caliber of recruits that the Na-is would seek to join their ranks to manage the death camps and the death squads during WW II. That is what IBM under Arvind Krispy Kreme and his Pipmunks has become. Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt rule the hallways in Armonk. As many have stated on this site, IBM is a burning dumpster. And it will never improve for US employees.
For everyone else, there are better opportunities outside IBM. After all, who wants to work in a burning dumpster?
