Comms Layoffs

Riffs afoot. Ditch the human element, instead let AI write Nike comms. MG wasted no time.

Looked around and realized many of the women of color are gone and the 2 people demoted are both black teammates. But sure — it’s all just a coincidence. We’ve got one Black leader who was part of the process and represents diversity so no way we toxic.

@r2 what influencer was 50? You realize how d-mb you sound? That week was fire.

Here’s the thing: you’re prolly one of the 20 internal people who got passed up for new guy job, then got passed up for a bigger job in this reorg, and ur salty that a new team is getting on without you. You don’t love Nike, but you tell yourself you do. You love your ego.

You probably can’t imagine how anyone could do anything without your brilliance.

But you’re also the person who finds something to critique but could never create.

@qk why not quit first thing tomorrow? Do it for your values. MG offered everyone a way out. Maybe he’ll give you a package. But give the team a chance to get this toxicity out. If you believe what you say, and if you’ve got any integrity, you’d bounce right? Why stay? Ah, or maybe you got booted already and you just can’t get past the place you’re addicted to trashing. The “dystopia.”

Comms needs to clean house. That’s what new guy brought in to do.

Zero impact internally or externally. All hands meaningless. Storytelling and narrative has gone about 3 mins down Murray at best. Bringing in 50 year old “influencers” to learn retread innovation lab story is lazy strategy.

Help is needed.

The promotions? The women earned them—but let’s be real: the men (MG and JJ) are basically off the hook now. And why isn’t anyone saying mean boys club? They get to sit back while someone else handles the messy stuff. Results come in, everyone stays quiet, and bo-m—a whole new breed of workplace bullies just got legitimized. Meanwhile, the men pat themselves on the back like they ran the show. Have heard women on the team have been told to be happy, get in line and do work to make MG and JJ look good.

It’s work. It’s a job. But it’s also a dystopia. women climbing the ladder are often doing it by playing the same ruthless games they once hated. The more bossy, more authoritarian, the higher they go. Having “survived” the chaos themselves, some seem to think they have a free pass to dish it out to everyone else. don’t forget all the times in the past people told to just get in line and obey. Shut up and dribble

MR is the worst, I’ve experienced her mean girls club firsthand. She knows absolutely nothing about sports, Comms, product, or marketing and she’s no leader.

She a true brown-nosing corporate patriot who’s career is defined by managing up and adding no tangible value to Nike’s growth. If fact, she’s a microcosm of Nike’s corp culture 2020 onwards. She needs to go for Comms to improve whatsoever.

There is a special place for women who don't help other women.

@ns “those of us”? No. Don’t try to speak for a plurality. Speak for yourself. I’m one of MANY who are thrilled with the direction we’re heading in this week. And PTSD? This isn’t a traumatic hardship. It’s a job at a great place. Have you seen what is going on in the world outside of PHK?

From reading all these posts… this seems to sum it up.

1) MR is terrible
2) the women who were promoted are well deserving of these roles and perhaps can make for a better comms org
3) currently the org is a sh-t show filled with bullies, undue intimidation and those wanting to speak you over just to get their words in
4) those of us who remain suffer from some degree of PTSD, yet still faithful come back each day

@kt LOL!! Im not in comms but not showing up to a team meeting after you had a reorg is a good idea?!? Trying to get others to follow you? Are you an Intern? You think it’s like an optional school assembly and you can just go home? Grow up people. This is asking to get fired and you make it seem like irreverence? That’s just being a coward and a fool. You may have a job for now but hopefully you don’t have a family counting on you. Getting fired is not fun and it’s not what they’d want for Christmas. Love these other people this out on this thread. Nike deserves better than you and they’ll get it. Whoever MR is, can’t blame that person when you’re out of work 🍿

is the fact that so many of us were shocked to hear our new role a statement of HR not being good at their job or is it decision-makers just not caring very much about our career plans/desires/hopes

This is ridiculous. Everyone knows that that whole APLA team deserves their flowers and then some. And NO ONE is more deserving of a VP promo than those four "white women." It's not affinity bias - stick around long enough delivering great work without fail and you'll be in their seat. So enough.

@kt @kt clearly you’re on comms talking about the all hands. You gotta get out. Tomorrow should be your day to quit. No matter how highly you think of yourself, the place doesn’t need you. I’m sure MG would help you if you asked. Don’t ruin it for others just cause you’re miserable. Vibes are changing and nobody wants this BS anymore. Please help yourself and help others. Throwing shade on a team meeting? C’mon!! SMH

@k1 Have you ever worked in APLA? There's incredible talent (and the kindest people) mostly all under paid and MOST CERTAINTY under banded compared to Global roles. What you see as promos is simple a level set. Get a clue.

@k5 frequent listener, first time caller. PREACH!! This is true for 99.999% of the people who vomit here. I never understand why you are still at Nike?!! Leave! You all clearly know what’s best and how to do it all. Go get another job. If you love the place (which you don’t), you’d get out of the way and take your toxic outlook w you. Nike will be just fine without you. It will be better without you. And you will be better for leaving Nike. Don’t wait!

@k5 this is so true!!! Nike is a job. If it’s not a job for you, there are plenty who could do great things in the same seat you’re stewing in. Leave for yourself, and leave for the next person who’s looking for that chance.

@k5 amen! And you can’t always blame the white woman. It’s only ever about race when it suits one side. Let’s be better.

@k1 you should consider leaving Nike if you haven’t already & take some time to find what brings you peace. Everyone deserves happiness and balance, and it’s clear Nike isn’t bringing out the best in you or offering that. It’s not easy, but stepping away can be the healthiest move. Wishing you clarity and fulfillment ahead. You’ve got this.

I thought NP+KW were leaders who put people in roles through personal favoritism, but MR may take the cake. She basically gave promotions to her entire APLA team. And look at who she and MG made VPs: MS, JT, SC, CL. Did anyone not a white woman get a promotion this week?

@f9 nope, MR still remains. Worked with EH back in the day, so protected and let loose to further f up the org. Has driven so many good people from the company.

MR is the one pulling the strings. She’s got everyone fooled and always finds a way to take care of her own. How is it that so many women of color were let go while the white women got promoted? MR even makes bogus MOR claims to get people fired. She’s playing chess while MG’s stuck on checkers — just another pawn in her game plan.
