Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

2026 Promotion Cycle

Management are actively trying to suppress promotions; and trying to plant the idea that lateral moves are "just as good" in terms in career advancement.

The target is to reduce PSG 24+ by 30-40% over the next 3 years. This will be mostly natural attrition. However, it means that there will little, if any, promotions to these PSGs.

Management are exempt from these rules and will continue placing into PSG 26,27,28,29 are per usual.

Technical Career Ladder employees are doomed.

It's hilarious reading a current CVX employee claim "lack of industry experience" about someone ELSE, lol. Too funny.
If you knew what everyone else outside in the real world thinks about you guys, you would get it.
Sorry.

The only breaking point is in your mind. You may lose your cushy job so you are squealing like a stuck pig. Admit it, loser.

Chevron has already reached the breaking point of too many positions moved to MSP and ENGINE. I am working with people that are non-employees and many are nice people but the lack of industry experience is amazing. Chevron has reached a breaking point and the cracks are showing in the lack of customer support. So sad but the decisions have been made.

You kidding me?
Promotions?
I just hope we can keep some jobs…

Promotions? Are y'all worried about staying employed or promotions? Dang. Must be nice to be one of the privileged class.

It really looks like there are plenty of worthless trolls who may or may not have high paying jobs with Chevron, doing literally nothing for a paycheck or they pretend to, yet they troll this site with no life or prospects and falsely assume others are jealous of them for being frauds. Very sad and pathetic. If they had that great of a life and career, why would they troll this site all day?

I did not say what you stated I am saying, "basically scam artists who are likely doing little to no work."
I did not say they are scam artists, not they are doing little work.
I said their job positions have been moved to HOU and they are still living in the SR area or other locations around the USA, and I am sure they are doing their jobs well.

I made my statements because I notice posters make statements aboput things that are not accurate about the reorganization and I want to clarify information based upon what I know is happening. I actually work there, work hard and I enjoy the "cushy" job that some people state we all have. Those on the outside are jealous and the people that are employees in the ENGINE are jealous we have "cushy" jobs. When the ppeople who are recently hired have 20+ years with the company you will have the work experience I have and I am payed for.

Based upon you statement, "just get to keep your cushy high-paying big benefit positions. That's not good enough for the entitled.", it sounds like you are not one of us.
Please verify if you are an employee from the USA, because it does not look like it. :)

@1et, So you say there are shysters collecting a paycheck from CVX and milking the system, basically scam artists who are likely doing little to no work. That's lovely. And you guys wonder what's wrong with Chevron and why they need so many layoffs.
Priceless.

This site has now turned a full 180 from layoffs to promotions. God forbid you all just get to keep your cushy high-paying big benefit positions. That's not good enough for the entitled.

@1et another example that rules dont apply once you hit a certain PSG. We have a manager who was supposed to be in TX from SR and insisted his new direct reports needed to move to HTX ASAP post-reorg just like he was going to do. Guess who still has yet to move......

@cq Within ENGINE and offshore they’re hiring college students who haven’t graduated yet or newly graduated. They are cheaper than experienced offshore hires.

@153
If you want to move to another location, that is a personal choice. I have moved around to a few places and the relocation packages are lucrative. But, if I was living in California and my family was from there, I would not relocate to Houston with the recent reorganization. There are jobs in Northern California and family is more important than any company is.

you write, " The problem with lack of willingness to relocate is that it is very common to be left without a job and that means no severance, no cushy package, nothing."

The truth is the people in California that accepted the EOI last year, actually received the "severance, and the cushy package", you must not work at Chevron or you live in a vacuum. I also know people that are still living in SR area and are still on payroll, they are milking the salary until next year but do not plan to relocate. I would like to think you are familar with what is going on but it seems you are out of touch with what is "realy" happening in the relocation process. Heck, there are people that in recorded in Houston with desks in Hou140 and 150 that are still living in SR area. ;)

@14t, The problem with lack of willingness to relocate is that it is very common to be left without a job and that means no severance, no cushy package, nothing. And it makes no difference where your manager goes or who they are replaced with, the results are always the same.
:)
I know quite a few people this has happened to.

The problem with a willingness to relocate, is you can get left in a non-desirable location for an en extended period of time. The manager that promised you a future is gone on to a different postion and you can be stranded in Midland :)
I know people this has happened to.

@pw nah. Really not true. Just be willing to move whenever and wherever. Thats really the key. And don’t be a slug. Once you show you are mobile and will to take on different roles not just for a promotion you get noticed.

So the way people talk here, no one just wants a well paying job with good benefits, everyone should be able to become a manager or whatever.
Really? And you're all convinced OTHER people and other generations are always the problem.
Lmao!

@pw Maybe people like to feel like they're learning new skills for themselves. I know i like to constantly feel like I'm actively engaged so if I've been in a role for a few years, it's nice to move to something new to break up the monotony, promotion or not.

I am still at Chevron because it’s easy money. I will eject from the vessel when the next package comes out. Then I will work part time in a gift shop on a beach in Europe. I speak 3 languages well and can live on my pension. Ah the good life awaits me!

A LOT of experienced CVX will retire in the next 5 years, leaving a big gap. If we stifle the mid career employees of progression and PIP them, what will be left?

@fb, save and invest the larger bonuses when they do come, so they do compound in the future.

If you're not a HiPot or management's favorite, you just have a job. This has been going on for years. Those who talk about their careers and the next opportunity are fooling themselves or have bought into the mirage from management that doing extra will gain you attention from above. It's all a web of lies.

@dv “organizational struggles” are an understatement. The to MSP’s is pulling down the customer service. The MSP’s are underperforming and not following Chevron’s standards of work expectations but the GM’s are not willing to bring it to the attention of senior management because the senior leaders will expect the GM managers to fix the problems. The problems run deep and systemic, it will take a lot of work to fix the problems that are growing within the organization now.

@fa, Everyone is wondering why you are still at CVX when you evidently have tremendous opportunities at independents that have such greater pay and benefits, which many of us don't. Please do tell!
Please don't lie and say you work at blah blah blah and make twice this three times that. Thanks in advance. We can spot tall tales a mile a way on this site. Thanks

  • No Promotions
  • Open Plan offices
  • No WFH
  • Forced Relocation to Houston
  • Zero career opportunities.
  • 60% the pay of an independent

Why exactly are people sticking with them? I am honestly looking for one good reason at this point

XOM here - DW calls it "downward pressure". Has MW fully adopted our playbook? Has he started quoting the late Lee Raymond "we don't pay people to leave"? I always looked at CVX as the more humane of the US supermajors - no longer the case?

Its so sad to see how much the it has changed. It is what it is, but still how the mighty have fallen. No incentive for growth, just more greed for those already at PSG 26+ to milk all other employees dry while lecturing us about culture and office bonding.

If they want attrition of grade 24+ employees over the next 3 years, all they have to do is offer another EOI package in 2030 and people will jump off the ship. I enjoy working at Chevron, but a lot of people are getting worn out by the organizational struggles.
