Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

This is what no strategy looks like

So the new tech leader has been here over 18 months and still no strategy. Counting keystrokes and butts in seats? Those are tactics you use when you don’t have ideas. Come up with some d-mb stat like “our average productivity score went from 6.7 to 8.3!” Yeah, sure. “We shortened some arbitrary date by three weeks!” If all else fails, talk up AI from the videos you watch. Meanwhile the actual things that need to be done are just kind of floating. I get it that it’s hard to admit when you aren’t up to the job but come on. Just take the golden parachute. Why is it so hard to get a good tech leader at WF?!?

@cr we've done some flavor of data lake several times over. Now we're doing it again.

@jy Pushing what into cloud? Hardly anything is really out there when you consider the cloud hype has been like 5 years now. Ahere are a bunch of things you can't even put on azure.

I’ll give her credit. She turned away the stupid let’s throw everything in the cloud strategy that was going on while we were building the new data centers.

Before her, the push to the cloud was being done without any real clue about the costs or due diligence to see if those workloads are best in the cloud or on prem.

She ended that nonsense. Management was pushing apps into the cloud with no enterprise cloud logging set up.

The WF C-Suite though has two interconnected strategies. Layoff as many as possible through replacement hiring offshore, through automation and AI and do whatever McKinsey recommends.

The new tech strategy is not to do anything. That way you don't have to review anything. Give everyone a participation ribbon and do it again.

@bp it is usually guys like this who are cheating the system and / or have very little value to add. Their willingness to work "hard" from an office is their only competitive advantage.

@bp you are absolutely correct.
Just because you are willing to sit in the the office for 8 hours, waste an hour feeding your face. Makes you the most dedicted hard working employee.
Not mention that you work a 9 to 5 job with every evening and weekend off.
For you, 8 hours a day proves you are a hard charging worker.

To her credit, her no-strategy is perfectly aligned with the rest of the company’s.

A few years ago it was cloud-- fail. It was agile- meh. The strategy is AI hype all the time. Oh, and moving to new data centers.

Some of the stuff I've heard would make you scratch your head and wonder if some of these leaders have any clue.

Sounds like the current strategy is to get rid of all the deadbeats who haven't been doing much of anything the last few years. Everyone knows the coffee badgers have been committing fraud and this wouldn't have taken more than a couple pay cycles to address anywhere else. The trash have been lucky to get paid to sit at home all day, while their coworkers dutifully came in to work as expected, for as long as they did. Maybe once all the people who should be working at Walmart are gone the company can actually move forward with other priorities.

Nailed it. Literally the only skill that Shart cares about is a willingness to fire all the domestic workers. That's what he's asking each member of the OC to do. If they do it, they get their millions. If they resist or don't kiss the ring with enough enthusiasm, they go to "spend more time with their family".

Her greatest academic achievement was a 2 year degree from a community college lol. What did you expect? They are paying her 20 million dollars to fire as many people as possible. Insane.

@OP not much of an upgrade after TK. They won't quit until they run this bank in the ground. Funny, they complain when our vendor outsource and the service su-ks
