Not in this economy, and not with the job market the way it is. So please, share credible information or at least somewhat reliable rumors. We’re all in this together. Most of us would rather have a heads-up, but nobody wants to get worked up week after week over layoffs that aren’t actually happening.

@nt try to save 1.2m of you spend 36k per year, also, you might want to look at total market etfs for a more aggressive investment for at least a portion of your money, nice job on keeping expenses low.
@nq+1k8m13dps I voted you up because that's true. If I take the interest out, even without touching the principal, inflation will "eat" my money. In time, I will still have one million dollars, but the purchase power of that million will fade in time.
So what are the options? Work until I die? Just to make sure the inflation will not eat my golden nest egg? Nope. I'll work until I can. After that, I'll live off my savings, and that's it. People see money as the big thing to have, but what many don't realize is that money represents time.
If you have enough money not to work, you saved yourself 40 hours a week of work. If you have enough money to pay for certain services (hairdresser, cleaning maid, auto mechanic), it means you don't have to spend time doing your hair, cleaning your house, or fixing your car. And here is the kicker... you can have a lot of money, but hardly you can have more time...
So I'll take my chances with inflation... :D
@np ah, so you don’t plan on keeping up with inflation, makes sense
@hm+1k8m13dps One million in a CD right now should give you $40K a year without touching the principal. If that's not enough or almost enough for you, maybe you should start looking at your spending...
Last year, I spent around $36,000 in credit cards, and I try to pay everything with plastic, for the points. So gas, groceries, dining out, cellphone, Internet, insurance, utilities, vacations, all but the property taxes (the fee is too expensive).
House was paid off in seven years (better to get the cheapest house in a good area, than the most expensive house in a so-so area). It is the smallest in the area, but enough for us. One used car paid off in cash. I may buy another one if the prices dip next year.
We could still cut around $3K in expenses if we stop dining out and traveling. So take care of your health first, that's a big expense, stop wasting money in "things" you'll end throwing away (or giving away), and focus on any debt you have.
If you accomplish to live with $40K a year, maybe $50K a year, then the interest of money saved and/or dividends, plus any part time job, should be enough for retiring...
@j0 nope, you might want to do some reading. Come back when you have some big boy money….
@hm once again, learn how to invest. I bet you're all in on mutual funds. Not a good way to go.
Short sell Ford stock and you'll be rich
@hj safe withdrawal rate is 3%, can you live on $30k per year?
@cv learn how to invest.
@OP. "Being worried about layoffs isn’t some minor anxiety
Not in this economy, and not with the job market the way it is"
For many, but not for all. As long as you live below your means, save and invest the money, you should be better than most. It doesn't matter where you work, how much you make, always save. In time, you'll be fine. The trick is not "to earn more", but to spend less.
Why am I saying this? Because I am in the chopping block with all my team. We're told next year we are out. While my coworkers are going crazy, I am not worried about surviving. I have zero debt, small expenses, and some money in the bank.
And how did I acquire this knowledge? Because I was in your shoes several years ago and learned the lesson: sooner or later, everyone will get the boot. Take the time in between layoffs to prepare for the next one. That way, you don't have to work yourself up every time there is a layoff happening.
"Most of us would rather have a heads-up"
Completely agree. However, I doubt very much you'll get the heads up here at Ford. The b@stards are now doing the layoffs remotely, with last minute meetings, and no notice.
I can tell you this for sure... no large layoff will happen this year. Just small cuts. Next year, I am expecting bigger cuts, complete teams to be laid off, but I am not sure if they will be company wide in one swoop, or disperse through several months.
That's the extent of your notice. You are always in danger, and maybe is done purposely by the managers, to make you work more for less, to make you accept more workload, put more unpaid hours in the company, and take all the cr@p with a smile.
So here is my advice. Forget about "when" you are getting the tap on your shoulder. Think that you are going to get it, eventually. So start behaving accordingly. Cut your expenses as much as you can. Save money. Improve your skills. Polish your resume. Check your network. Finding a job can take 2 weeks, or 6 months. So start now. And stop suffering for the impending lay off. You cannot change the outcome, so you should not lose sleep for it. Knowing you are doing something, should give you peace of mind.
@cf not with only one mil, it’s 2025, not 1980
@cg That was funny. I was advised by the new folks I partnered with for my network that it might not be best to advertise that I’m now behind multi-Tbps protection, since that just invites new "contenders". But honestly, if I start seeing daily DDoS attacks again, it’ll just push me to refine the mitigation profile or move to something even more secure. Kind of a net positive in the long run, like last time. Forced region-beta-paradox?
@b5 it might have been believable but you mentioned targeted DDoS attacks which is beyond fords competency.
I have over a million in investments pumping put dividends monthly so I'm not crying like you little guys.
If you have a mortgage and debt and very little savings you should be TERRIFIED. A layoff would decimate you. Layoffs are coming soon and you are on the list.
Been dealing with this since 2008. Every couple of years. It's brutal psychologicaly. I'm now numb to it all, and hate the company/industry for it. I have a plan if I get it. Will still su-k but in the end, we are all just a number. 'Human Capital Management' is all anyone needs to know.
Pension person also cut this past August when they did a pretty big sweep.
So unfortunately due to my skin color, I was legitimately denied advancement opportunities in the program my friends were also in. I joined the same time as you. They are strange when it comes to talent, but I kept my skills sharp because I ran projects in parallel decades back from before I ever regrettably joined, which was in '22. You shouldn't rely on your job to keep your skills shop in a technical field like software, not sure what your domain is though. Personally I was being forced into a hostile work environment I originally tried to legit leave. The people here are psycho and don't want you to prosper so they go as far to lie for retention and break the law because they know that the company is insulated and they could get away with it. Idk what your situation was but these people dox you and try to get you to drop all your hobbies / projects etc. It really feels like the show severance but you don't know they are trying to operate and give you the "procedure". At one point things got so bad near the end that I was facing DDoS attacks to a severity I hadn't experienced since about a decade and a half ago. It was none stop, and being well-versed with the manipulative lengths this company goes, I always thought to myself that it is highly possible that those attacks on my servers and infrastructure were from Ford. Knowing what I know now, I believe that is well within bounds of "the procedure" here. I think I did great work here, until I realized that they are trying to correct my behavior through legitimate abuse and gaslighting. Blessed to "escape" Ford
Wasn’t laid off per se but I was constructively dismissed by the new Amazon crew. My first day was after the 2022 layoffs everything afterwards was a sh-t show. If I stayed any longer my skills would have been obsolete. Having said that, they should’ve waited a month for the 401k vest considering the circumstances.
You will not do your best work at ford and you will be disappointed.
When ever I feel worried, I just put on my warm and cozy bunny slippers and my feelings of doom and gloom go away.
@ae I was laid off in 2022 and was also told I shouldn’t have been on the list. 60 yrs old and $$$ was the reason I believe. Ford lost my expertise. The decision came from CA, not my director.
@aa That might provide the “cover” Ford management wants to distract attention.
I worked at Ford for over five years and survived multiple rounds of layoffs. Unfortunately, during the most recent one in May, I wasn’t as lucky, even though I had strong connections with leadership across other departments. I was later told I shouldn’t have been on the list.
The entire management team I worked with left, and the new leadership brought in their own people and began pushing offshoring plans to India.
From my experience, major layoffs at Ford almost always follow top management reshuffles, so get ready for at least a thousand cuts. This is what i remember clearly.
@a2, “beyond approach”? Please god, layoff id--ts like you.
@a8
I was targeted due to pension and cut in Aug 2025, so now you’ve “met” another.
Agree with many here. The strategy is to do small teams or individual separations. Ford does NOT want to be in the news. The scary part is how IT employees have been hit hard in many companies. GM Atlanta site is the latest in a long list of places.
Amazon is laying off 30,000 tomorrow.
Ford is constantly laying off trying to stay out of the news as well as lulling current employees into a sense of nervous security. They either 'disappear' people or all of a sudden you see lots of senior people 'electing to retire'. If you are thinking there's going to be some mass layoff, you are delusional and out of touch as they are constantly trimming throughout the company to stay under the radar. Targeting process they now use is the PR 'Not Meet Expectations' that is how they now 'tag' you.
Just re-met another person, cut, i was cut nov 2024, she was june 2025, all because of pension. assume that
People have been flagged and some groups had to categorize them into coachable and not coachable. Based on prior years they try to do separations not close to Thanksgiving or Christmas. I do believe that it will be more one off separations for those flagged as not coachable. Not large layoffs. This should be completed by mid-November.
Usually I have my ear to the rumor mill, and I'm not hearing about any general layoff... That said, I think normal practice now has been to use the PR system to eliminate those they do not want. Once we get to mid November I think we're in the clear, given the lack of any credible rumors at this point, I don't think anything is planned.
Exactly, but some sad person is getting their kicks off on it and it's beyond approach
