Has anyone else been asked about volunteering to attend training for future strike support?

One of the highlights of every morning at my strike duty location was to dial into the union negotiations hotline. There were never any actual updates. It was always Chris Shelton yelling and screaming lies about how they had Verizon right where they wanted us. Even when the news was reporting that negotiations were at an impasse.
In 2016 there was a suspiciously high number of outages that occurred within an hour of the declaration of the strike. Boy were the customers po'd. They knew the union sabotaged their service. They knew (and resented) that the union was trying to use customers as pawns. Any customer that we encountered were sympathetic to our situation and very appreciative of our work. Few had anything good to say about the union.

There is no more injustice in the workplace... union members are overpaid for the work they do. All that was resolved years ago. I'd be surprised if your average union member even knows what's being negotiated anymore. Rest assured, though they will yell, scream and threaten you if you oppose it.
What's with all the anger and fear mongering from the union? I mean, if there's some injustice left in the workplace they're trying to overcome, most people would be behind them. If they're not compensated appropriately I'd expect the same. I mean, I don't even know what they're trying to get. I just know that they hate me and that's only going to get a negative response from anyone. Is this whole group really that ignorant?
@rm: after 2016 ended, when I see a union member, I can only picture them on their knees puckering up to service 0bama.
@rm I guess we all remember different things i remember a middle aged white woman literally crying in the van in front of the customers house. Because she had been in accounting for the last 18 years and was scared to death to take the ladder off the truck. A couple times we actually helped the stupid managers so they didn't get themselves ki-led.

The best part of 2016 was the way it ended! After weeks of negotiations with the union making only token efforts at coming to a fair agreement, Lowell made a final "take it or leave it" offer. When the union realized he was serious, they went to Obama and begged him to save them from Lowell.
I still overhear union members try to spin it to sound like they were such a vital part of infrastructure that the president intervened to save the magical keepers of the network. As if there aren't millions that could replace them overnight. It makes me laugh every time!
@qb I worked the strike in NY and there were a lot of troubles where when you went into your job on the tablet and hit troubleshoot data it would rebuilt cross connects in the CO router and the problem was fixed. Or troubleshoot video and it would recommend swapping a set top box. It was a really cool feature.
@OP what happens if your voluntold to report for strike duty and you refuse?
@qa what fantasy land did you work in that you just hit a button and it fixed it if that’s the case did they have Ben send you out they could hit that button .Please let me know where the auto fix button is I’m confused do cyborgs come down upon hitting that button and repair everything
I found on most repair jobs I just hit troubleshoot on the tablet and it either fixed it automatically or it told what the problem was so it wasn't difficult to figure out. There was the occasional cut drop but splicing a single fiber is easy. And yes the money is great.
@jz ya only problem is the customers have to wait until the real employees actually come back to work to get their services
I don't mind the strike work. I enjoy being outside and the per diem for meals is great. Five jobs a day, a couple of Starbucks stops and a good lunch, then home. It's nice actually meeting customers, too. Bring it on!
Can't wait to see the whales with their signs circling the drain while we take their money and vacation time home with us.
How's that warchest? It was pretty sparse in 2016.
I'm practicing with crutches so I can go out on medical leave if the strike hits

@ec 2016 WAS fun! The union showed up after we'd already crossed the "picket line" most days. Lunch was either a cookout or catered. Drinks and snacks were provided all day. We got to catch up with coworkers we hadn't seen in years.

Can retirees volunteer? Who do we call? I worked the 2016 strike in NY. It would be fun to relive strike duty and make some $$$.
@dm only fatties I see are the management with their big belly .Most the time they fix nothing do nothing it’s all company show but one things for sure there was plenty of following it’s not as--ult .Until the scab who can’t drive hits us
It's really no big deal. They're all bluster and sp-t. Yes, when crossing the picket line (we call it "fat camp") they'll try to block your way... yes, they'll sp-t on your car or truck but that's about it. When I've done field work I've never felt like I've been followed... either they su-k at it or they don't do it. After a couple of days it's old hat. I won't say it's pleasant but they have to put on their show. After a week you realize most problems have very easy solutions. There are problems that require more time to figure out but usually you'll get it if you put your mind to it. If not the solution is a call away. In the end as--ult is still as--ult. Reckless endangerment is still reckless endangerment.

Yep, ca confirm was asked to fill in on strike duty next year. And for our VZT guys not all of us are “management” VZB and Vzw have a lot of non-union techs/engineering titles. All kinds of people being asked to fill in.

Ha ha ya I actually do know my manager was asked but it’s just what they do .Chances are they go back forth make it look like their really fighting !!In end then the union says man we fought so hard got you exactly what they offered in the beginning it’s a great deal vote yes .The company says ya we did right by you have you a 2 % raise but on the back end a 5 % increase in healthcare cost on your back.I could be wrong maybe we go out it last 2 weeks then right as NJ unemployment supposed to kick in union sends us back to work as usual.The greedy corporations ,their lawyers control the entire world the economies, governments remember that don’t matter how you vote it’s all rigged fk everyone

@OP Yes. Wireless field engineers were asked in Chicago if they wanted to volunteer. Training starts in January.
