Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

leaders in my org required 4 days/wk RTO

just had an all hands. VP announced that all leaders now must RTO 4 days/wk. hasn't trickled down to ICs yet but we all know it's a matter of time. and if you have been remote and don't live anywhere near an office? tough luck, I guess that means you can no longer serve your job requirements and will be let go.

this makes no sense because it's not like our entire team will be in the same office anyway even if we went full RTO. we'll all just be in different offices across the country.

@dr+1ks6w5hkv work doesn't get done and the RoI to the business doesn't justify the productivity

@ea sdwan. SD literally said this directive came from above him.

What BU because I call BS for most of what you posted. SharePoint sites clearly spell out remote worker and official office you're based out of guidelines.

@c5 Amazon pulled this move. employees living in states with no AMZN office at all were told to either move to a city with an office or they'll be terminated due to not being able to meet work requirements, because the work requirements now changed to include being at the office. it's a classic move and Cisco is clearly moving towards doing it too.

A few companies made people that were remote choose to relocate or leave. Saves on severance when the employee chooses to leave

Cisco has leaders?

@c6 being productive will get you fired from Cisco. My ex-colleague was working at least 12 hrs a day at Cisco UK. Writing patents for Cisco even. Wrote a book on quantum at a time when people at Cisco laughed at him including the ones who are posting on quantum now. Told him not to do that, to spend the extra hrs doing something else . Didn’t listen. Then one fine morning gets an invite for a “career development chat“ from his line manager. Asked the line manager about getting promoted and she told him flat out,” getting promoted has nothing to do with deserving. “She’ll “promote according to her priority.” Or some such G2 or CP style bologny. The guy left after a couple of months.

@c6 logic doesn't always apply to business decisions especially if they want you to leave on your own.

@c5 I wouldn't count on that for job security. Changing the policy to require RTO could easily force relocation at your expense or you leave with no severance. Companies need $10s of billions to ante up in the AI game. Getting rid of employees is the fastest way to raise available cash.

Have been told that we are tracked by the number of hours we are in office too. Expected to be at office for atleast 5hrs as per my leader

Every single coworker I work with is in a different country or in a different state. Even if we all worked from a Cisco office, we'd only see each other on Webex calls anyway. It's counterproductive for most teams.

Nobody is getting let go just because they don't live near an office. If they were hired to work remotely and there's no office nearby, nothing changes.

Wtf is this obsession with saying leaders
😂 At best Cisco leaders are just Excel sheet monkeys
You should be in the office so your productivity can be exposed
