Hi has anyone received a 1-1 invite with their line manager saying ‘Business update’? This is specifically in UKI applications business under GA.

Laid off as well, interesting package and settlement. The invite is indeed business update confidential blabla. My manager was so nervous, she had to read the message from her screen.I calmed her down a bit and then the word came out: due to intensive investments and business changes..... All opportunities are blocked, all hiring reqs on hold, maybe until April. It's serious now. O wants to scale down.
@hq what team?
Nope, but thanks for playing.
@jm Anglo-Saxon?
I am aware of one certain person who was a extremely low performer that was laid off, but was hired back by "his buddy who was a VP".
They shared a common ancestry. I'll wager you could never guess what it is.
@f4 what about fusion apps erp /hcm /scm implementation teams?
@f6 Sorry but the "damaged goods" claim is nonsense - over the years (I have been here a long time) I have known of many people that have been laid off and then rehired 6-9-12-18 months later. Some more than once.
Maybe 5% needed to be moved on, the vast majority didn't if the riteria were based upon performance. This is not about people and their ability/contribution, it's about massaging the numbers.
I got an invite to a 'business update' for the next morning, was informed of my redundancy, I'm UK.
Business update means that’s it. No HR rep and very brief from manager who is in another country, then was sent an email with all the relevant info. Surely should have had a HR rep go through this, there had been no empathy from O it’s disgusting how we’ve been treated
I got a slack ping. No meeting invite.
@e6 It is interesting that O is laying off people in countries with high dismissal costs: extensive garden leave time, very large severance packages, etc.
I do wonder how many will be able to find new jobs at O? In all my years on the job, at O and elsewhere, my observation is that the riffed are considered damaged goods by management and no one is interested in them. In some places you were barred from rehire for a year or longer. Bottom line: they want you gone. And good focals, previous promotions, bonuses, equity awards and raises are irrelevant.
Perhaps O is looking to unload legacy businesses and a smaller headcount makes them look more profitable so buyers will pay more? Then use the proceeds to build more data centers? Or maybe the plan is to milk them until they no longer generate revenue. Who knows?
It’s across the board including CSS, Apps Sales
Not sure of exact numbers but assuming it’s 99+, minimum consultation is 45 days which would fall in Xmas period, so my guess is they extended to 60 days to pass by that period.
I’m impacted but we have been expecting it as our teams around the world were impacted in previous rounds.
Make use of not having to do the day job for the next 2 months and get as much as you can out of them like free training and certifications!
@bt - yes, i got it. 11 years here.
@e5 it's a legal requirement for layoffs over a certain number of employees in the UK that there has be a consultation period. You keep enough access to be able to pursue other UK based roles at the company, but if you don't find one then you leave.
Someone in my team today got the speech, and Oracle uses very specific language because of the way UK law works.
@e3 naive question but what does consultation mean? Who consults whom? And what may reduce the chances of getting laid off after 60 days? Also, will we get the usual one month notice after the 60 day consultation?
@e3 which BU please?
Notified of "Risk of Redundancy" and 60 days of consultation period.
@dz to confirm are you in the UK?
I got one. Am at 'risk of redundancy'.
60 day consultation period.
Its standard format guys. 5-15 minute meeting by your manager usually at the start if their day, not yours if you are in a different timezone. Business update is almost always, heres the door
From what I read before, if you get that invite at 12pm local time, then that is bad news. I hope it's just a poorly worded meeting subject. Good luck 🤞
No calendar invites in my team yet, but all the US staff in our team disappeared in a single round of layoffs in the summer, so we've been bricking it for months.
@b8 when is the meeting planned for?
What roles are you guys in?
Business update means working here is none of your business from now on.
Time to kiss goodbye O. How many years here???
Ive got one. Based in the UK
@OP who's GA? I'm on oracle UK but not sure about this LOB
If you got that email the probability is very high that you will be laid off. Sorry, wish I had better news.
Posting for info https://www.acas.org.uk/your-rights-during-redundancy
Laid off in 2024, Austin, TX. An email with a similar subject preceeded the layoff. It can be something completely different though, but I'd say this is concering.
I got one
