Trump is coming American tech companies reg outsourcing their work to India

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇳 TRUMP: WE WILL CRUSH INDIA TECH WORK

Trump is reportedly considering banning American tech companies from outsourcing their work to India, and Silicon Valley is sweating bullets.

Here’s why this is huge: For decades, U.S. companies have sent IT work overseas because it’s cheaper.

In fact, by 2023, they spent a jaw-dropping $132B on outsourcing, with nearly 4 out of 10 tech jobs shipped abroad.

Most of that work went to India, which has built a $62B industry off American companies alone.

But Trump’s message is simple: if U.S. firms stop sending jobs to India, American workers win.

Supporters say it could bring back around 300,000 jobs a year that have been leaving the country.

Critics warn it could spark trade tensions with India, which has dominated outsourcing for decades thanks to lower costs.

This wouldn’t be Trump’s first move.

Back in his first term, he introduced rules to curb outsourcing, too, and now he’s hinting at doubling down.

If the ban actually happens, it could be one of the biggest shake-ups in tech and trade in years, hitting India’s economy hard and forcing U.S. companies to either hire at home or pay the price.

I have worked for 3 indian mgrs, they were the most disorganized group of leaders.
One of my old bosses would do nothing but talk to his indian boss on the floor in their own language, then pulling other indian colleagues into the conversation to speak. No one spoke english.

Another indian mgr with zero mgmt background required constant mentoring from their colleagues. They were promoted because they were friendly with their indian boss. They always said yes to everything and our team was constantly overwhelmed with work. People could not easily take time off. There was no work life balance. We lost a few good team members who were replaced by H1B's, guess which country they were from? the replacements hardly spoke english, were less experienced, and were always chatting with the boss in non-english in the office.

one of the 3 indian mgrs i worked for liked to randomly drop meeting invites on our calendar < 15-30m before the start time. someone on our team finally complained. for some reason, that person had work and responsibility slowly removed from them until they finally left the company.

Cisco should investigate if managers or directors or VPs are involved in conflict of interest.

They hire contractors or give business to contracting company belonging to their buddies or close relatives. Many are outsourcing hundreds of jobs or hiring contractors instead of full time local employees.

Indians did not create the immigration system in USA, your CEOs were the ones who approved hiring of foreign workers, so why blame Indians for taking jobs of US citizens ?

They will go after asian tech companies illegally hiring or making their employees work here in USA on business visa.

Look at the 400-500 illegal Koreans working in Georgia state.

I think this is fair, then india will innovate and build their own companies and US can lose its dominance further.

@b9

The caste system there isn’t going away. It would not get worse.Indias strategic advantage is cheap labor. Not better labor, products, etc.

The services industry there would collapse pretty quickly. It’s mostly IT (with some financial) based. Global manufacturing exports are mainly textiles.

The biggest unofficial export is h1b. And the USA doesn’t need those people. We have plenty of intelligent, resourceful, and entrepreneurial people here already.

I am pro-US jobs and anti-offshoring. I'm not pro Trump, but this is one of the few things I agree with him on.

I have my doubts this will come to pass. Did any of you see Trump's hosted kiss-the-ring dinner with tech leaders on AI?

https://www.c-span.org/program/white-house-event/president-trump-hosts-tech-leaders-for-white-house-dinner/665202

Watch the CSPAN video. All these big tech leaders claim they care so much about education, yet they continue to hire H1B's and offshore workers. It's not just Cisco, it's all of the big juggernauts. Google, Apple, Oracle, Microsoft, just to name a few.

Here's the problem:

1) Trump wants US tech companies to continue investing millions and billions into AI and manufacturing on US shores.

2) Tech companies want to continue quarterly revenue growth and expansion into existing or new markets.

3) Tech companies do not want to pay honest wages for workers. They'd rather find cheap labor via outsourcing, or offset expensive labor with automation or AI. Maximize sales, minimize CapEx and OpEx.

4) Silicon Valley tech lobby is strong. If Trump tries to ban offshoring jobs, it means these companies would have to hire more US employees at US salaries. This increases the overall OpEx, which can impact earnings.

5) Tech companies cannot report loss of revenues to investors. It will result in a decrease in stock price and negative impact their brand. How does a tech company keep their stock prices high while incurring additional spending via OpEx? They can't.

Conclusion: This talk of ki-ling offshore jobs is more Trump fluff BS. If they ki-l offshoring, it will cause shockwaves across US tech company stock price and future earnings. They should consider a tiered approach if they want to do it right.

@d9 hey bi--h. Do you understand the difference between H1B and outsourcing to India ? H1B implies you are here in the US legally. Outsourcing implies hiring in India.
First, we want to get rid of the outsourcing jobs to India.
Then we want to get rid of people like you on H1Bs and keep you in India

This is not fair to us from India. If you ban outsourcing jobs to India, tech in America will stall due to high expense of paying in American dollars. I hope this president don't touch H1B.

All those tech giants are using "Global Geo Optimization" - Talents pool, time zone coverage, cost of staff, opportunities of local business - to justify hiring globally. That will not change in my opinion. US layoff will also continue on replacing older/higher cost employee with cheaper/younger ones - That will not change in my opinion.

I think the number one thing government needs to do to is to scrutinize those Contracting Agency/Vendors. They have been paying the H1B workers from all of the world (mostly India but also from Africa, Eastern Europe, etc.) very low and pocketed a huge profits. Often, those companies have close connections to the SVP/GM/CEO of tech companies and are able to get the projects. Companies pay low end of the law requirement and those contracting house got 50% or more. That essentially makes those IT contracting jobs totally unacceptable for legit US workers. I can see a trend that those contracting houses are operating globally and companies are using them in all regions to reduce the regular staffs for cost reason. US government cannot control other countries but they can definitely hammer down on those companies in US to make IT contracting jobs at least workable for legit US workers.

Full-time hiring will be reduced over the year due to prevalent of AI tools/platforms but there will always be short/long term contracting jobs ,and US government needs to make those accessible/workable for average US IT workers to make a living. However, I see very little actions on those because our system is very corrupted especially US congress. All the big business also does not want that as US contracting workers are likely to unitized soon.

Long term, this would be good for India also.

Look at China - economy is dominated by Chinese companies serving Chinese demand and locking out all foreign influence. The Chinese are smart. They are building global power. It's all Chinese owned and staffed.

Now look at India - they are nothing but a sweatshop for the US. Upper-caste Indians go along with it because US money helps keep their antiquated structure in place.

There is a reason China is now decades ahead of India despite being arguably equal around 1990.
