Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Negotiate severance?

So hearing the severance situation is at least 2 months garden pay, possibly another 8 weeks on top of that and 2x weeks for each year of service; at least from two other threads on here. Has anyone heard of the ability to negotiate for more pay and/or at least getting health benefit as longer (or a COBRA payment for say, 6 months)?

@cm Yeah this - zero in on the health benefits if anything, cause that i know a friend of mine in a different company got another 3 months cobra payment just for asking kindly and then agreed to sign the paperwork on the spot (cause that’s what they really want lol) - so maybe like thanks for this package, appreciate it, I’m prepared to sign the documentation immediately but waned to ask if there is any wiggle room with them health package if i could be granted an additional 3 months since this will be my biggest expense and it will take a year to find a new job” just a thought…

i think it’s a careful line to walk, and depends what you are thinking of asking for. I think the cash aspect is set as is the RSU stuff, but maybe you can KINDLY ask for another 2 months of COBRA payment because with taxes and all, cash will get eaten up and COBRA (or any health plan) is the most expensive thing you’ll have to pay for on your own… but don’t leave that meeting ambiguous, if they say no, then take it and move on. But don’t be aggressive or hostile.

Find an employment atty and speak to them. Especially before you sign anything. Most of the package is an incentive for you to sign away future rights quickly. There are occasions where alternate settlements may be possible but no once you signed and agreed that any legal action must be in Seattle.

Is everyone that has replied so far in HR or Srini, is that you, babe? Like I’m not entitled I’m someone who is probably gonna lose their job and the job market is trash and won’t have any opportunities for a year or more so yeah, I would love to figure out a way to negotiate every dollar that I think I deserve.

Try reading your employment agreement. Or the employee handbook. Both will tell you that severance is not negotiable for those under Director.

Naive + Greedy = Bad Combo

There's no negotiating with severence.
It's not like how you'd negotiate for more pay when you're first getting hired.
These people are done with you, they want you out the door and gone.
They could be really hardcore about it and just tell you to hit the road with no severance at all, do you even realize that?

You hold zero leverage for any negotiating when it comes to severance at this point.
What would it gain them to give you more money? You're still going to leave, because they've made that decision for you. You don't have a choice. The entitlement and cluelessness with some of you people is ridiculous!
Just take what they're giving, be glad that you're getting anything, and move on.

Also, COBRA is a total ripoff.
Just go without until you get hired at a new place.

It's not 8 weeks on top of the garden pay.

I always wondered, what leverage do the laid off people have that makes us think they can negotiate? And why will the HR approve anything else then what is already mentioned to them
