They wouldn't be forcing us to drive to an office while gas prices are out of control.
The cost of commuting is such an unnecessary burden when we were highly effective as fully remote employees for 5 years!
Love doing more work for less money!

@cd They aren’t just hiring remote contractors, but FTEs too.
@bg that was no mistake, they cut off the “remote” classifications early in 2024 and moved people from “remote” to “hybrid” to be able to make percentages. Keep in mind they did this while keeping a number of Senior Managers and Directors remote who then scrutinized the in-office attendance of people driving 50-100-150-200 miles a day to get to the office to meet their “hybrid” requirements.

@bg there’s a whole group of us coming down from PA, MA, NJ and NY weekly. It’s oh so draining at this point. I just wish they had given us a grace period to relocate. We had no warning or time to adjust, we just started hemorrhaging money for travel overnight. My relocation fund was lit on fire on hotels and travel costs in the first few months of RTO when nobody knew what was going on. The money I would use to move at this point is gone to weekly travel (almost 2k/month). Same exact story for my colleague who travels with me from NY.
No chance to sell houses, no chance to figure out how to upend our lives, nothing. They said, “RTO starts next week - no exceptions” and I’ve been dragging myself down to DC since that statement. Not to mention they still hire remote contractors.
I get angry when I hear they’re giving some higher-ups a heads up now to give them a chance to relocate or take severance - we were never afforded the same basic human decency. Putrid leaders have stained their personal, professional, and moral reputations.
And for what? We haven’t even been released from c-ship after all of this sh*t. They sold their souls out of fear and got nothing but tanked morale and a shell of a once-awesome company in return. It’s almost funny if it wasn’t so real and so sad.
You weren’t mistakenly classified. It was a deliberate decision by your management.
Some of us were mistakenly classified as hybrid for RTO even though we live >200 miles from the offices and have to pay to come in every week. The leadership lost their morals, ethics and decency over a year ago. They literally couldn’t care less.
They don't care, it was an easy way to get rid of people as some quit and others found new jobs. They can then say its about collaboration but its really about oversight and micro-managing so they know they are paying for every minute of your time whether or not you sit in front of the computer and do nothing like lots of management or actually do work that really doesn't mean much. A lot of the people left will tolerate anything even being disrespected just to keep their job. Then they have the "yes" people they really not, not really the more qualified and better employees.

There is nobody at the top who gives a sh-t. if they do anything and it's to your benefit, you can bet its all for optics.
More work? If you haven't already scaled back your work efforts, to maintain some equilibrium, I'm not sure what you are waiting for.
