@bz, this is @cb my mistake, you were referencing a CA state job and my comments were for the federal Government. You might be interested to know that California has $269 billion in unfunded pension liabilities, just one part of the total state and local government debt which now stands at almost $1.6 trillion.

@bz Government jobs don't have big fat pensions. Pensions were reduced greatly in the 1980s when the retirement switched from CSRS to FERS. A portion of the retirement is based on a small pension, social security, and an optional 401k called the thrift savings plan. The pension payouts aren't huge.
