For those promised a severance package towards the end of 2027, are you considering leaving/retiring before the end of this year? Just to escape Polaris, workplace toxicity and overall dysfunction the company is sinking into further each day ?
Despite the promised payout, does your sanity seem like too high a price to pay in order to receive the severance/settlement ?
(Also, what if they keep moving the end date later than year end 2027??)

Wow. I'm so sorry to hear what you people are going through. I worked there many years ago from 2004 to 2014. It was pretty good at the time, but by the time I left it was on the decline. I would never have guessed it would get this bad.
Reminds me of the saying "The fish rots from the Head down".
Poor leadership seems to have destroyed this once great company.
At least I gained a lot of great experience and I'm in a much better work environment.
Having Imperial Oil on your resume is very helpful when looking for future work
Yes you have to come to terms that even a decent sum of money is not worth subjecting yourself to a toxic workplace and potential mental health struggles for 2-3 years. If you are young and not retiring it can be better to just cut the cord and kickstart your career somewhere else
Definitely seeing a lot of people quit before their planned end dates. If people are finding a good job before their end date, seems like they are prioritizing that and their mental health above a severance package.
Yes I was surprised but I seen dozens quit before severance date. Opting for a new job without severance payment. Of the ones I seen numerous were > 10 years. So quite surprising
@bw What is polaris? From what I read, it is quite nice https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/travel/inflight/united-polaris.html
What if you just do bare bare bare minimum and let the company nsi or lay you off sooner.
The problem is that conditions can continue to deteriorate with Polaris and there is a lot of uncertainty about what we’re going to be asked to do next year….it makes the choice really difficult…
I would suggest do the bare minimum to keep your job. Detach yourself from everything else. Just do the work you like, and not others tell you to. This will keep your mental sanity, AND get your pay.
If the environment is actively harming our well‑being, our sanity is worth more than any payout — but the decision becomes a tradeoff between how bad things are now and how certain and valuable the severance is. I’m also stuck in a dilemma: is the severance worth waiting for and substantial enough to help my financial situation, or is my mental health — and the long‑term cost of staying in such a toxic environment — too high a price to pay?
Seems like you could completely disassociate rather than leave before getting paid out..... Work on your resilience
