Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Hiring Externally

They have sunk to an all-time low.

As they continue to make cuts, we have some snake-leaders hiring candidates from outside the company. You can't tell me there weren't hundreds of internal applicants that were fully qualified!

THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT US!

Sadly, external engagement doesn’t have the excessive overhead costs of AT&T’s internal politics. AT&T has great people, but the management overhead costs are excessive and make any business case impossible - hence AT&T’s downwards spiral.

CSO is only hiring externally and apparently it seems like if you don't have AIG or Wells Fargo on your resume or live in Charlotte or India, you need not apply.

Charlotte not even a hub, never was. Yet they claim this is collaboration.

"Rinse and repeat"

You aren't wrong

It is just business. You make $55 per hour. I need that work at $37 per hour. I am not stupid, so I surplus only 15% of your team. Those remaining can carry the load while I try to backfill at $32 per hour. That leaves me some flexibility with the replacement hire. Maybe I have to go with $39. I still save $33K per year, but I offer the replacement employee reduced benefits AND I pass along 100% of the cost of those reduced benefits to all other existing employees. Rinse and repeat. Every September I tell all employees I have negotiated the best benefits package known to man for the coming calendar year. Welcome to Corporate America.

Disclosure: Customers should not read anything into this corporate spin on reality as we treat our customers with nothing but fairness, transparency, and the utmost integrity. You can trust us.

@bf
I am not talking college hires. They are bringing in people in their 30s & 40s. And they just cut people in a hub in their 40s.
College hires are a joke. It's going to take them 5 years to become productive & that's when they'll move on.

I'm slightly surprised that you are now just discovering this fact. Of course they hire externally whenever possible because they can pay someone less, and no, the company doesn't care about you, silly.
This is business. Period.

“ At&t will hire an external leadership candidate with actual experience and proven results. A year later (or less) 100% will resign. So what’s the takeaway here?”

They are too smart to stay. Only people that advance here are experts in analingus, blame shifting, credit taking, and never say no.

“Except that when Stank needs a senior leader he brings back his old retired fogies to fill in as upper level consultants, in direct opposition the BS he told us in his town hall.”

Add hypocrisy to his list of idiosyncrasies…chiefly the “dark triad”.

THE one and only reason: Hundreds of internal candidates and none of them wanted to report to work.

McElfresh once said in a town hall regarding managers that are surplussed “there is no place for you here”. When he was asked why managers that are surplussed now only have TWO weeks to look for an internal job vs. the former TWO months, before shown the door.

Yes, they want recent college hires and to pay them half as much. They've been saying this on various townhalls for years.

“ Applied to internal stuff a few times, went through the interviews and then got ghosted.”

That’s unprofessional for sure. At least they could send you a “dear John” email or MST.

Stankey is a lifelong creature of this culture. Bringing some outsiders in may not be the worst thing unless they are Amazon t_rds who want to bring their toxic culture over.

Why would they hire internally if they can hire from the bottom of the pay scale? The point of this is so they can pay people less, not someone whos towards the top of the target salary range.

“You can't tell me there weren't hundreds of internal applicants that were fully qualified!”

Internal applicants have higher salaries and are too expensive. Less expensive external applicants are wanted.

Applied to internal stuff a few times, went through the interviews and then got ghosted. Found out later they brought in external. As stanks said, build the culture they want. So that means, they want existing employees out.
