Reapply to Role After 6 Month Timeframe?

Any1 tryna to or hoping to re apply after their severance for a vzw role that opens up in a similar part of the business after their 6 mo timeframe expires? Guess you can be rehired after 6 months. Anyone’s supe tell them they will try and bring them back into a similar role after 6 months? Anyone’s leaders say they foresee spots opening back up in the next few months? Mine keeps telling me that she swears she will be able to get me back into another sales role in the biz in a few months timeframe with new reqs. Anyone else hearing this? What do y’all think?

@c3 Any corporation will lay you off as an at-will employee. It's the risk you take any day. I know people that left VZ voluntary, took jobs elsewhere, and have been RIFed too.

Don't be so naive.

@bm Ignorant? I am realistic. I know plenty of people that took jobs during their RIF period and are thriving in new roles at VZ. One is a Senior Director now. Others have been RIFed again. It's luck of the draw.

I know it's hard, but if you're comfortable with VZ and want to try and get back in there is always a possibility. It's honestly the reason I never took VSP. I can't say I won't EVER work for VZ EVER again. Too final.

@b0 I have too much pride to take a contractor job to do the same work. I want my PTO accrual. That's all. If I can't keep that I will proudly take my severance.

@a9 companies always have massive layoffs and rehire and become bloated again

Past experience says the more likely path to working for Verizon again is by way of contractor work. I have seen countless former employees come back in 6 months as a contractor.

@OP I don't know why you're getting downvotes on this. VZ will inevitably post jobs. Those on the payroll until February have the best chance of taking an internal job before they're booted out the door. If not, aggressively apply between six months and one year so your service will be bridged.

I know there is a new CEO and things look scary, but people will still voluntary leave, die, retire, etc so some backfilling will still need to happen.

Good luck to you!

You're overlooking the fact that Verizon laid you off because they don't want you anymore.

The goal is to trim salary costs and rehiring people defeats that purpose.

Move on with your life, there’s other employers that want to hire you. It's not going to be Verizon though.
