Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

2010: ~200K fulltime employees ... 2025: ~90K fulltime employees (firings are not new)

... and the number of cell sites probably tripled. In most cases, VZ will fire you quickly if you are not cutting it (and replace you with a contractor, not backfill). So if you have lasted over 3 years or so, you have shown you are adaptable and are getting your work done (excluding outliers who may be competent, but hard to work with, so should maybe be cut). But, in the Nov 2025 firings (they are not layoffs), MANY people with 10, 20 and some with 30 years of experience were kicked out. This shows the utter incompetence of VZ leadership. They have no idea how to run a long term business (kicking out the most effective employees to make a budget look better). Leadership looked at the cost of those employees and MAYBE whether they took an AI class here or there (even though there were no AI applications available for that particular job and still aren't) and made uninformed decisions. Completely CLUELESS. If/When an AI tool became available for those employees' roles, those people would adapt, just like they have done for 10, 20 and 30 years.

And for those very few people who talk about a lot of dead weight being cut, you are showing your ignorance. Of course there were a few employees who "earned" being cut, but you are delusional if you think you are somehow more valuable because VZ chose to keep you over someone else. You are just a line item on a sheet that was overlooked by some BOZO higher up.

@bd they're expanding FIOS now that they've reacquired Frontier. In my area Frontier is busy running fiber everywhere.

@ba ya but still decimated Fios too and not stopping . Sorry but this ceo is gutting verizon. He’ll dump all the employees…. Get his 3 yr bonus by hitting a stock price … customers will jump ship like it’s the titanic and at some point when stock peaks all the board sells off their shares … stock plummets after ceo has bailed and board snd him have sold off their shares and company is ran into the ground

I’ve seen this in gte merger same only those old folks bailed by choice 2 years after the merger. A sh-t ton of knowledge left and we got stuck with core gte management running things that ran gte into the ground … that was 2002 I believe …. Here we are 25 years later and looks to be they’ve ran the company into the ground … losing customers on wireless … ya caz signal we had good before now su-ks or is gone it got worse not better . So the reputation of the best network doesn’t show to customers anymore . Fios they CHOSE not to expand which is a money maker ….

@OP wireless failed. It’s all about fiber going forward. Take your Metamucil if you aren’t on the fiber train

I've heard people talk about other people "coasting" and just going through the motions until retirement (as in, older and not working as hard) and it was time for them to go. Nope. What I see is the older person working their 8 hours efficiently, with work/life balance, not getting wrapped up in the office politics and not kissing a-s. Once you've seen enough people kicked to the curb, you understand your family and friends will be there for you, not corporate America, especially not VZ.

Yep, if you have 10+ years with VZ, you have been through A LOT of layoffs and survived. Must be doing something right, except you are AGING. Can't do anything about that. Getting more experience, yes, but BOZOs are not looking at that. So, yes, FU to those clowns talking about dead weight.

30+ years here and was part of the November RIF. Meanwhile losers who do nothing but bullsh-t and smoke all day are still there. Completely ridiculous.
