“ This is now the industry standard.“

Not standard in this or any other industry. And you’re an imbecile.

“I've never seen a company where they don't give an employee an assigned desk or even a cubical with some essence of a noise barrier”

This is now the industry standard.

@az

"I wear a headset to talk to other people over an Internet connection. "

And when I talk to people in my own location, you should see the looks others give because they are being disturbed since everyone is packed in on top of each other.

I've never seen a company where they don't give an employee an assigned desk or even a cubical with some essence of a noise barrier. It's the most toxic work environment I've ever been at. People can complain about not wanting to go into an office. For me it's not wanting to go in an office with the kind of setup they think is in any way conductive to working.

@ck dev error. I am only required to be in 2 days but counted against 5. Very simple yet they can’t get it right. Same applies for holidays.

@az but if you complain, they'll make you move to where your team is. I feel your pain though. Even the people I work with in my building, I communicate with over teams because we're working with people in other locations, so it's just easier that way.

@b5 , I agree with @az. My meetings are directly related to service impacting aspects of Customers’ connectivity, and none of them in involve anyone in my own state - or Dallas for that matter. The only calls I have that are not meaningful are all the Town Halls and Around the Globe updates. Sure, there is always someone wanting a weekly or monthly touchpoint, but most of the slop is Corporate.

It shows holidays as 0 and it assumes 5 day requirement for everyone when my indicator is only a 2 day requirement.

@az I’m sure these meetings provide little to any value.

It’s time to challenge the company to define “presence.” I am physically in the office building to “collaborate,” yet I am on Teams meetings all day with people across the Globe. ALL DAY. I wear a headset to talk to other people over an Internet connection. The people in my office can’t even talk to me or say hello because I can’t turn my attention away from the people. I am speaking with virtually. People tap me on the shoulder quite often in the office to try to ask me a question about how to print a document or how to perform a task, but I wave them away because I’m embedded in a conversation with people who are elsewhere. My “team” and mentors are hundreds of miles away and have never met. Meanwhile, I spend hours in a hub with people I can’t even collaborate or network with. So the question becomes, “I am present - but WHERE, REALLY?”
It’s like buying a $20 ticket to an IMAX movie, just to pull out your cell phone and scroll through texts the whole time. Yeah, I was at the theater, but was I “present?” “PRESENCE” is where your attention is, not your body.

So stop giving us work that isn’t “WHERE WE WORK.”
