Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Any updates on the rumored NA layoffs?

There’s been a lot of talk, but nothing seems to be happening in my immediate surroundings - which isn’t really indicative of anything, really.

@1ej AI is just the latest hype cycle, unless you are really brainwashed you realize that AI is just a really expensive search engine. 95% of all AI projects fail or contribute zero to the bottom line for companies according to MIT.

@b0 Not sure the number, but many parts of Concur got hit. Sales, Solution Advisors (SC), and Marketing.

@ak why would they hit BTP core? I thought BTP was the future and BTP is where the GenAI capabilities are - Joule studio, agent builder, gen ai hub, LLM access. Makes no sense!!! The sales must be really sh*tty.

you are notified by a meeting notice in your inbox with HR and your manager. It's a done deal at that point, no chance to change their minds by showing them your awards, great 365s, survey results, video done by management thanking you and your team - you're dead employee walking so might as well accept and move on.

@jn VERP OFFER - probably never again

@gd Interesting, thanks for letting me know that 3 weeks per year of service was also for T4. Quite nice actually.

@hy Leave us alone. You, DA-fan and Chuck Norris overstayed your welcome by a large margin.

@h7 Good question. I would have thought that these people are immature, probably young, clowns who think this is funny, when in fact it affects people deeply.

However, the age structure of SAP makes this improbable.

Why is it that only here, in the SAP forum, we have clowns like the CK/DA/Norris fans who flood every single thread with unfunny bull$hIt?

The first few posts might have been funny at the beginning, but that time has long passed. In other company forums, discussions tend to stay much more focused and serious. Maybe we could try to get back to that level here as well.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

@fd incorrect - I was a T4 and ran with 3 weeks per year of service.

As far as I remember, up to T4 it was always 2 weeks, and only T5 and up was 3 weeks.

@f5 Ouch! Well, as a T4 who was more than a decade too young to VERP in 2024, if something happens to my role in over the next year-ish, I'd like that three weeks and not two =)

But this might just be a sign of things to come, they're just going to further cut costs even with layoffs. I wonder if something could happen to immediate RSU vesting at layoff.

@f3 Exactly - they are sticking it to T4’s who:
• refused 2024-Q1 VERP offer of 3 weeks per year of experience
• further refused 3 weeks over when it was “extended” to end of FY2024
•P2025 is essentially now whacking T4’s who did not accept the VERP payout terms”sweetener” in FY2024.
Grateful I took it after a T4 role I took on an exception basis was quickly eliminated pretty much before the door could hit me in the @$$.

@b2 I can confirm that in this round, T4 is also getting 2 weeks and not 3.

It's strange how software developers switched from rock stars yesterday to perceived as useless today with the excuse of AI...

For years we encouraged everyone to learn development, what should they do now ?

Does anyone know if there been any reductions anywhere in Asam's own Finance Board area?

@be it’s been brutal indeed with them expecting us to do 10x with AI. Or they just expect this because devs don’t have much choice nowadays.

@b1 typically it's 2 weeks/year for T3 and below, and 3 weeks for T4 and 5

@ay Some people seem to be getting 2 weeks per year, others 3 per year of service. Any idea what the difference is, is it T-level? No matter what, this is a sad day. Some very good people have been let go.

@aw it seems to be the same as last time. RSUs vest and pay out, 3 weeks per year of service, and 2 months on payroll to find an internal job.

@ar complete surprise for my team at least. In the middle of a project, being in the catalyst program, and a great performance review.

For those who have been laid off, first of all, I'm so sorry to hear!

Is there anything you can share on the notification process? Was it a complete surprise for you/your team, or something that you anticipated was coming?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

@ap We still don’t know which area of BTP the poster is referring to. Give them a chance to respond.

SAP support has already gotten so bad it's a joke, how they heck are they cutting even more? They are cutting BTP? Guess clean core isn't taking off like they had hoped, seeing as how it benefits nobody but the SAP and RISE support teams. "We need you to spend millions of dollars switching to BTP so we can streamline our workforce", great deal.......
