Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Areas affected by layoffs?

I know Risk has been affected. Any other areas so far? Mix of in-office and remote? Please share what you might know.

Any planned layoffs in CQA?

@e6 Reason why you keep hearing risk is because a few years ago they broke down a single Risk vertical into separate ones under each other vertical (Tech, Ops, Payments, etc.) Now they are reverting it back by consolidating and removing redundancies. Do not ask me why they had to do it in the first place because I am a simple person and ain't got an "Executive Management" brain.

@e6

All of the above

JR used to say, “if you’re not in risk, you’re against us.”

@e4 this is something I keep hearing. "Layoffs in risk". Risk is a broad and super generic term. Are we talking JR's risk? CK's risk offshoot with collections? Enterprise risk? Just saying risk is super broad and could literally be anywhere

@dy

In risk and I know for a fact there are lots of quiet layoffs, where someone knows they are gone but they are given a couple months to transition their work. I would guess in a normal environment the laid off employee would quickly find another job but in the one we are in, they take any paycheck they can get.

@dv take into consideration that they are most likely referring to the amount of severed and terminated employees since the new regime started to form. In Jan. ‘24 this organization had 91K employees. Far less than what we have currently.

@dn I just saw someone asserting that we'll be down to 50k employees by end of 2026 and it's like... I know that people here know stuff but if you do the math that's 12k+ employees over the course of a year. I mean anything is possible but I wish folks would pack their critical thinking cap before they fully buy into those assertions. I mostly take things here with a grain of salt. They have been accurate, but not as dramatic as people say.

@bb that's because this group of people here in this form is filled with mostly clueless people who don't know how things really work. Way too much wild speculation and not enough fact. They would have you believe that they were going to be 2,000 layoffs this week and yet we might have had maybe 200 which would be on par for how much I'm seeing each month as I've been tracking headcount for 2 years now.

@an I keep reading risk but like, risk is a HUGE area with many different offshoots. There's credit risk and collections, enterprise risk, risk management and compliance...so the net cast for "risk layoffs" is a pretty big one.

I know of 10 people in CRM. None were remote. Located throughout various HUBs.

I know lots of people in risk and no one has said anything about layoffs. Curious which groups in risk were affected
