Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

What is this BS having to come in to HQ!!

Really? Managers/Advisors and above to come in while everyone else works from home? What makes us so special? So instead of me working from home they rather have us take off and do no work...smart! Thank you but no thank you.

Sammy, he should have never been the president of this company and all the Japanese VPs he brought in with him after he was appointed president.

They have no experience being VPs. They are only VPs because they be-doverto him. He destroyed the printer team and will destroy the enterprise team!

@dg it is indeed true. They only managed to clear the way to the South parking garage on Monday after the storm stopped. So rather than do the right thing for their people, Canon decided to force band D and above employees into the office to have hybrid meetings all day. Schools closed, roads still terrible driving condition, but we just gotta have some people in the office. I'd love for someone to explain to me what was accomplished in the office on Tuesday that couldn't have been done from home.

Seriously, Sammy is the worst fu--ing thing that has happened to this company. With any luck, Mr. Mitarai retires soon (he's 90 ffs, move on already), Kevin Ogawa takes over, and drags Sammy back to Japan in disgrace.

Someone told me this earlier and I thought they were f'in with me. Then sometime else mentioned it to me and said it's because only a small portion of the lot is plowed. Really managers and above seriously how f'ed up can a company be to only be open for certain employees and not all or nothing. Is this true that's why?

I'm not at that location but just found this out. This is absolutely absurd why are you open but only to certain titles and with most schools closed makes no sense. This company gives no fox about their employees.

@a6 You won't see him. He hides in his ivory tower.
Has no concern for his employees' well being.

@a6 Walking around, 100%, he gets picked up driven to work, provided with free breakfast + coffee, all paid by CUSA. Inc! Doesn’t have any young kids and even if he did, their wife’s doesn’t work because they have housing assistance.
Make sure you get up, be-doverand greet him tomorrow with a smile!

The decision-makers cannot relate to the challenges of the average employee.

Many of them have maids, drivers’, secretaries, etc. to wait on them 24/7.

You got to worry about who will watch your kid who is home from school.
On the other hand, they’re worried about when they can re-schedule their first-class flight to some hobnob convention or presentation and whether or not they can still book the same 5-star hotel accommodations.

Isao will be in the office tomorrow, he is the best leader CUSA has had!

No he is a crazy lunatic, he doesn’t understand what family values are, they all don’t understand what family values are, they can work here in the US while their families are in Japan. Just think about that they have no family values!
You are trying to deal with people who are irrational and they don’t care that you have kids at home and that the school is closed. That is your problem not their problem, it doesn’t matter that you can do the work from home, you march and you listen!

@a9 it can be perceived that way because it IS that way.

The timing of tonight’s announcement is a bit challenging for those required to be in the office tomorrow. Given that schools across Long Island are closed, a notification after 7:30 PM makes it difficult for staff to secure childcare and employees who can't find care are forced to use the day off. Receiving such late notice can unfortunately lead to the perception that employee well-being is not being prioritized.

You can always quit and find another job. Wait, they probably won’t let you work from home either.

So much for collaboration, I just have to use Google to create a bunch of meetings now… This is some half a-s backwards bs. Who makes these decisions?
Sammy? I hope I see him walking around the building tomorrow.
