Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

How bad did Enrique fumble this deal?

On scale of 1-10, how bad did Enrique fumble the Stripe deal? And how bad will our stock crash on Tuesday? Im wondering if I should just cash my vested RSU’s now before even bigger losses come.

@kz In terms of getting a better price for our shares, a buyout probably is the best option. I can't see us getting to more than 80 a share without a buyout any time soon. For employees, I'm not sure a takeover is ideal. Stripe isn't known for having a great culture. It's fairly cutthroat from what I have read. The culture in paypal is pretty much rock bottom too these days but better the devil you know as they say. The stripe redundancy package is also a lot less favourable than what paypal offers so if you do get let go by them, you might be lucky to get half of what paypal offer. This might impact the European staff more than the north Americans. I dont think this leadership or any other leadership can make much difference. We're a hated stock with fierce competition. As an employee and a shareholder, I'd prefer not to get bought out by stripe and a private equity firm.

@kw i agree but do think a buyout at the right price is the best step forward. Lores needs a lot more time, but I don't trust the board's ability to turn it around. Aim for 80$ per share and sell.

@kv its not just about paypals performance. Its also increased competition. Apple Pay, google pay, klarna, stripe, square, the list goes on. Should we have focused more on new technologies? Probably. Would it have made a lot of difference? Who knows. All i know is that in 5 years, multiple different ceo's, cfo's, executives etc, we're still struggling to improve margins. It obviously isnt as simple as what some on here seem to think it is. We might never be able to meaningfully improve margins to please wall street and significantly improve the stock price. Paypal is no longer a growth stock. We'll probably never get back to 300. We are a mature company that makes a huge amount of profit each year. We'll probably get more and more competition and it's possible that no ceo or leadership team will be able to change that. People need to look at the reality of what we're facing rather than simply pointing the finger and blaming the current ceo for everything. Theres a bigger picture that some idi0ts on here just dont see.

@gf Not defending lores. Defending truth and facts. John Donahoe was board chair when Alex chriss was hired. Again, he is not to blame either. It was the whole board who had to vote. Solely blaming Enrique for hiring chriss is just plain wrong. If someone has facts to back up why they don't like lores, thats fine. But making $hit up saying the stock price doubled when he left HP and he hired Alex chriss so everything is his fault is just plain wrong. So much hate is being directed at him on here and the justification for it is simply wrong. Talk as much $hit as you want about him, just dont incorrectly blame him for stuff that isnt his fault. It just shows how misinformed you are otherwise. He has inherited a struggling business. You cant come in and turn that around in 4 months. I find it hard to believe that people are so stupid that they think this is possible. You need to give someone at least a year to show some kind of results. Bare minimum. No matter how unsuitable you think they might be as CEO.

As soon as they open their mouths the stock drops 4% and another 5% when Jamie Miller talks. Down 9% for post earnings.

@bt chairman - why on earth are you defending the HP hardware CEO?

@ag there are 10 people on the board. How do you even know he voted for chriss?

Given how high the stock has run up, it would probably sell off even with ok or good news. I thought we weren't allows to sell before earnings?

@ag yes hate him all you want. Blame someone else for your problems. Thats smart.

@af hasn’t he been on the Board for a while and familiar with the company? I thought that was why he replaced Alex. That being said, he’s definitely out of his league and combined with Jamie Miller it’s a pretty bad leadership team. Also, I don’t believe I heard any rejection of offer or any response so they could still take the deal and the share price steadily declined all week. I’m guessing the earnings call will be another announcement of shrinking margins and zero growth. I can see this stock trading below $50 by the end of August.

Who said he fumbled it? They rejected it. They haven't said anything else which is probably the right idea because saying anything could cause the share price to swing. Nobody knows how much a share price will go up or down. Even the big wigs on wall street dont know for sure. They can estimate based on economic conditions and forecasting but its just a guess at the end of the day. Investor sentiment is what drives the share price which means if they think the business will do well, they buy the stock and price goes up and if they think it won't do anything special they sell the stock and price goes down. Its like we see paypal come out with good news and the share price still keeps going down. Why? Because the big investors think it isnt good enough. All sentiment based. Paypal cant do anything right in investors eyes even though they're a cash generating machine. Its a hated stock and something seriously special needs to be done to turn it around. Its no easy task for anyone and Enrique certainly isnt to blame. He has inherited a stuggling business and all of a sudden everything is his fault? Seriously have some common sense. All this hate directed at him on here is completely misplaced and honestly boring to hear the same garbage and lies being repeated.
