Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

New leaders do not know their own org structures

With the SVP changes today, both in the business & finance…. I can’t help but to ask myself, how are they deciding who is being let go? These shifts imply that the new leaders do not know their org structure…. Who is good/ who isn’t etc.

All we can do now is, not let our nerves get the best of us. Today just proves that layoffs will be 1. financial 2. Strategic and not personal and reflective of your abilities.

I hope everyone can get some rest after today and realize there is nothing that you can do it. Out of our hands so should be out of our minds.

@ae Respect your input, I was speaking from my experience. I worked with Boston consulting group, and they were the ones who determined who would be cut.

Value 2024, those that were there and survived remember that consulting firm.

@ac agree to disagree.... maybe for higher levels. But at the working level, it's the Sr Dir that puts up the names to get leadership buy-in then HR. I know as a former manager for many years and riffs, this has been the process.

HR and a consulting firm decide who is let go. They do this for consistency which is why everyone scratches their head when there is a RIF as there are always “good employees” on the list. VZ wants to minimize the chance for a lawsuit. leaders are sometimes asked for names, but they don’t make the final call.

Your timeline is off.

All the decisions on retention vs separation were made before any SVPs were let go. The 'new' SVP will be taking over groups either in transition or post 'off-book' date. Yes, SVPs may not know their new orgs day 1 - that's when they ask the remaining leadership team to bring them up to speed (no pun intended) on who they are and what do they do.

@a2 none :) if you are internal, you would know what’s happening.

Please reach out to our communications team for any further questions - stay blessed and happy 50 year mortgage to all those that voted for the orange ball of doom.
