@ad But it isn't about pleasing its customers or employees. It is all about pleasing the shareholders and the board. It is always about the money and unfortunately we are only a tool and the customers are the product.
@ad you are thinking too simplistic. Just ask Gemini the ramifications of 20pct unemployment. Yes, VZ is like any organization. Please your customer and they will stay or come. But think if 20pct of those customers don't have work or income. In our world, think of .80 churn. Getting 80pct of a customer back to 1 we lose. We reported .91 churn for a quarter and the world is on fire for us. Now think of prolong .80 not because of service or fees but society don't have money because of 20pct unemployment. One can think more advance than just politics.
@ad Well birdbrain, I wasn’t commenting on VZ laying 15-20% of its workforce. If you go back and slowly read what I wrote, I commented on “economist” Dan quote on how the US economy can possibly see 15-20% unemployment.
Government intervention?! Sounds like a ManDamEee supporter!!
Verizon is just another employer. No more or less than any other company in importance. If the company pleases its customers it will achieve profits. When it doesn't than layoffs occur.
It is a self europhoric claim. Corporations want to be efficient and save cost. They use AI. They make product and services. Now they lay people off and they don't have income to buy these products and services. Humans are working on our own demise. There definitely needs to be government and social oversight but they are too busy arguing amongst each other
I’d hope the government would intervene before it got to those levels. Simply put, 15-20% unemployment would catastrophic for not only the US, but all countries. The economy requires certain consumer spending for it to run properly; no jobs = no spending.
And I don’t know about everyone else but our AI is NOWHERE close to be able to do my job.
If companies pursue strategies that put large numbers of people out of work, how do they expect consumers to afford their goods and services? AI may not be the solution it’s being made out to be.
