Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Can someone explain the AI love affair by leadership?

So maybe I'm dense, but I don't understand leaderships FOMO of AI , these guys are trying to throw AI at every problem, when most of T business models have nothing to do with AI directly, they complain about churn, and think AI is going to find some missing demographic, or want to use AI for lots of internal development, yet we're constrained by regulatory limits that don't play nice with GENERATIVE features of today's models.. Help me understand...

@ad You are so right. Our execs are midwit copy cats. If Amazon or Microsoft does it then our midwits suffer Fomo of the worst kind. Too overpaid and too little character and competence. The pandemic shined an unflattering light on all these clowns. Fortunately most of us, save a few nubes, see through our execs as if they were made of fine crystal.

Come on all the cool kids are trying it. It does some things ok, like helping to write things and saving some time researching topics, but other than making funny memes and videos, it doesn’t do a lot of actual work well.

Maybe if Stanks had used AI to write his famous email, it might have saved some points on the stock price and not put a massive don’t care attitude from the employees. Watch out below for the rest of the earnings until he’s gone.

Even in india we can be layoff. The supervising supervisor tell us to go bring auntie and grandmama and the friends. Even one such of time he says to bring the one eye uncle rakesh who make the goat curry for street. All come to work the job but now tings can be different. We hear rumor of uncle rakesh to be layoffed. Promises now calso can be broken here in india. Frustrate!!!

Nah folks, what is replacing employees is OFFSHORE employees or contractors, not AI.
For AI to succeed you need 1- a lot of data (something that except employees data, T doesn’t have) and 2- a lot of GPU power from azure (something that T can NOT afford).
And all the promises of AI nano degrees and courses, will NOT save you. Your job will go to contractors or offshore.

@OP ATT AI is the most stupid mix of total-ignorance and trying-to-look-modern. lol
Staley and his supporters are pathetic in their desperation to look knowledgeable and cool. If you really know/work with AI you just have a laugh. T nowadays is the greatest joke.

What’s not to understand?

My organization is eating itself alive. Half of it does the work and the other half automates the work.

It’s speeding up rapidly. I have zero doubt my entire org could be automated tomorrow. Would there be fallout? Yes, but eventually, and I short time, it will eliminate the majority of jobs.

Why don’t they use AI to figure out how to be a successful company? How best to restructure the executive levels. How to have happy productive employees? AI could have the answers we need, but with a bunch of Magoos in charge, we will miss that boat.

Because like leadership, A.I. is their cover story to their lies .. it’s that simple. It’s their hype. I was a leading A.I. specialist and it didn’t stop me from getting my severance, nor was A.I. the reason behind it. It is simply the cover story to their game they have a-foot.

Ughhhh, AI is basically powering the whole stock market. It promises to be more influential than the internet.

Not sure I believe that but what the h3ll do I know.

However, given that the whole market is chasing after it, wouldn’t you think it would be criminal if AT&T didn’t.
