Will people in the bottom 10% in the US get the standard severance package? Or will it be considered “fired for cause” and you get something less (or worse nothing).

XOM has been using the PIP for years to reduce their U.S. workforce without paying severance. Welcome to the XOM way.
The severance is there so you'll sign the paper promising not to sue. It's not a gift. If they did you for cause it takes a lot more paper work than just a singular forced rank.
The reorg scoring and the annual performance system have different metrics. The key one being the performance on is relative to others while the reorg is just based on your performance according to the scoring options.
I've been wondering this, but I was a lucky one where I departed after 29 years (last day was March 31st, day before Meg started). Got the full severance and vacation paid and 2026 prorated bonus. Also got retiry medical to kick in next year(After COBRA). Feel as if I got one of the last lifeboats on the Titanic...
@ac well that su-ks. I mean bottom 10% people aren’t all low performers. It’s just a forced comparative measurement. Anyone who gets cut should be glad to leave. And any high performers who aren’t “chosen ones” should look to leave when they can. Greener grass.
Any termination due to performance is not a layoff, thus no severance. CC: XOM
Only 8% out of the entire company is getting cut. The bottom 10% won’t be known until like February next year.
