Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Practice what you preach

The only way to cut down on bureaucracy and be cost responsible at the same time is to actually thin the leadership layers.

Stop approving vp-reports-to-vp nonsense, systematically thin the senior director level and give their authority back to people actually close to IC's.

Anything beyond this is lip service to excuse layoffs of people who actually do the work.

The number of zero downvotes tells how many in GT are actually on the same page, man we IC's (good apples) are the runners and hustlers....we built the stuff,we are building the stuff and we will be building the stuff and getting managed by the brains who aren't using them at all...if am the legendary knight I would have slashed the beauracracy

It does seem silly to specifically target the Senior Directors (despite some of them being terrible) only….

Revamping titles and collapsing redundant teams most definitely.

But also consider all the management hierarchies fair game.

If a thing doesn’t make sense, change it, don’t limit that lens to just the Senior Director roles.

and @cz that’s hilarious! you have proven you work here.

Noooo, horrible idea.

Are you suggesting our glorious and competent leaders to get rid of their emotional support animals and punching bags?

Too many Senior Director and VP roles which don’t actually DO anything and get paid several hundred thousand dollars a year. Thin out the PowerPoint warriors / cheerleaders and shift those investment dollars into individual contributor do’ers.

@af I agree with them. If you did this you reset what it means to be a VP vs Director and all those people with it. This is a great idea!

@af there is a layer of sr directors from the old days. They su-k a-s, and multiple vps, and multiple directors. They add zero value or worse actively make it bad. I'm a director and there so many jackasses trying to maintain their stupid little empires rather than improving systems, it drives me crazy.

@aa lmao so let me guess, EVP/SVP/VP/DIR/SR MGR/MGR are all ok but SR DIR is where you draw the line? Brilliant

Easy fix. Eliminate the senior director position. You have Directors. They report direct to a VP. Then if you have multiple VP on your team you are an SVP. An SVP can only report to an EVP at the C-Suite.

Cut the layers. Change titles but keep comp the same. Helps people with titles to do other things inside or outside Nike while cutting layers and empowering roles.

This is what other companies do well.
