RAs are planned for September??

@t1 could you elaborate?
@t1 confirmed how?
Confirmed RA coming in November for US
@kz saved them for potential lawsuit
@aj "Save all your documents and past reviews" won't help you in trying to fight your PIP. If they want you out, you are out (for example as part of the RA cycle......that will have you out the door by the end of this December). Full stop.
@cj IBM prefers PIP to RA as a starting point because it is more cost effective. PIP recipients are more likely to leave on their own. The RA cycle provides a no fault way for managers to cull the herd no questions asked. Even if you survive the PIP, the RA cycle provides a convenient way to toss you out the door. The herd matters, but you don't matter.
"Dear Joe, there is an RA today. You are affected. After this call I will send you your separation package" - this is just business as usual at IBM.
Layoffs make stocks go up. Share holders love it. The general greenhorns in the market will chuck it up to AI.
Ready to retire by the end of the year. Been asked to train some Indians to take over the responsibilities. Sad to see team members being PIP’ed and literally being pushed out the door to make room for Indians.
It’s interesting if you run the 8/15% numbers
Currently IBM has approx 265k worth of employees worldwide
That equates to 21k / 40k worth of employees impacted (8 / 15)
Given a 10k head count per billion for first world employee savings (NA and Europe) and a 30k per billion worth of savings for the rest of the world we can estimate some savings
NA/ Europe savings at 8% would equate to approx 6500 heads or 650 million
The rest of the world at 8% would equate to approx 14,500 heads or 500 million
That nets to 1.1-1.2 billion in savings which just about nets to what IBM said FCF would grow to
@cj given that RAs are one of IBM's top products, continued growth is only possible if they can eliminate severance.
Given that most teams have already been cut to the bone -- they were cut to the bone two years ago -- they can afford to reduce the layoff percentage from 15 to 8% if it saves them severance. Not like there's that many people left anyway unless you're in India.
PIP pip hooray!
Yes, there is a PIP target of 15% with the aim of cutting 8% by end of year. Some managers are pushing back, but the higher ups are not bulging.
IBM doesn’t want to do RAs. It looks bad to the shareholders. The company’s strategy is to force managers to target 15% of their team as low performers (even when there is none), and put them on PIPs or de-incentive them by making their lives miserable (more work, no salary increase, etc.) to get them to leave. @as do not accept, decline
@b3 I didn’t get invite?
@b0 it’s not an All Hands meeting. It’s his monthly CEO Office Hours meeting.
The id--t CEO just announced an all hands meeting next Wednesday. So guessing whatever happens is going to go down next week.
Layoff Thursdays
Out of the blue 1-1 meeting with manager for tomorrow.
I am planning to be on vacation for 2 weeks.
@ac you about to be PIPed. Save all your documents and past reviews now in safe place you can access later. Ask for what is said to be put into writing in an email. Also ask if you can record meeting or covertly record meeting with phone. Save and document everything.
@ac Not likely an RA. Those don't happen this late in the week. RAs happen on Tuesdays. If it's anything, you're getting PIPed...or promoted.
I received an unexpected 1-1 with the manager for tomorrow. It might be it.
@a9 what is you area?
In our area, two managers have been hit
