Not Moving to Cognizant

I was offered the move to Cognizant last week and will be allowing the offer to expire EOD tomorrow. I wanted to put this out there as encouragement for others who are deciding to do the same that you are not alone. To those who are taking it, it is completely understandable and I wish you luck.

Nothing I have received from either Cognizant or FIS in the last week has given me any confidence in this "plan". The whole rollout and execution was dystopian. Clearly well rehearsed for many months, but horribly executed. 10 min to get questions answered with a 3 min notice. A portal to submit questions to that spits back out legalese answers, and does not offer the opportunity to schedule a 1-1 with an HR representative as was promised on the calls. Quite frankly, even if I made the move I would anticipate being back in this same position before the year is out.

There is nothing that I want to do less than work for another company while simultaneously working my tail off for FIS who could not have been clearer that my services are no longer required. Years of service , knowledge, and loyalty lost because of a poorly thought out executive level deal. The existing workloads are already out of hand, and now they will only get worse. The increasing reliance on AI and India gives me no confidence in either company.

It is obviously a risk to simply walk away, but the known alternative is not appealing. I hope this is not FIS' "Titanic" moment, but it's hard to believe otherwise.

Sure would be a great time to take FMLA for anyone that can. It puts your job on hold and they cannot legally release you during that time.

@kj FIS' Severance Policy specifically states that you are not eligible for severance if a partner company extends an offer of employment to you, which Cognizant has done.

@a9 I am in the same situation. I have not signed either doc and will simply retire. Either way they win. But this way I win because I am no longer a pawn.

@dc And if they do find a new position - be sure to leave with zero notice. You won't need Cognizant as a reference and can just leave it off future resumes as you were still 'working' for FIS projects.

@ev to the cognizant employees that are coming to learn what you are doing, so that it will be easy for them to kick you out once KT is done.

@a9 what you said makes sense, however, keeping a steady income and unbroken employment record while you look for something else is a valid choice too. If you don't sign, you won't be eligible for unemployment benefits. Being angry is completely understandable. Evaluate your obligations to yourself and your family, to consider everything. Wishing you peace and strength.

Instead of taking a harsh decision. I think you should take the Cognizant and take it very easy on giving KT and resign once you get a new job so that you will have some steady income. Anyway they will remove you once KT is done and that is the trend now with other companies as well.

Is it true they’re considering this a voluntary termination (quitting) if you don’t sign? I get that their plan allows them to scr-w you out of severance, but how is this quitting when they’re the ones who sold your jobs? How will that work for applying for unemployment or job reference checks?

A quick Google search states that employees have between 21 and 45 days to sign a separation agreement. Please check for your states of residence to be more precise. A consultation with an attorney might still be worthwhile, not to change the outcome, but to clarify your rights in this truly sh---y situation designed to create the most pressure to the advantage of FIS. Sending out peace and strength to those facing these very hard decisions. Everyone deserves so much better.

I am in the same position. I have been with FIS for 20+ years and I am opting not to sign the offer letter with Cognizant. The communication around this "transition" has been deplorable. There was a call last Tuesday with 4 talking heads (didn't identify themselves) to say this was happening. On the call we were told if we were being impacted, we would get an invite to a second call when we would learn if we were being dumped off on Cognizant or Zensar. On the second call (the same 4 talking heads) we were told how valuable we are, what great professionals we are, and thank you for your contribution.
Everyone on my product works remotely. Our immediate managers did not bother to have a call with the team to tell us the entire team was being moved to Cognizant. Each of us had 24 hours asking ourselves what we did wrong.
FIS HR has been completely absent. The separation letter and offer letter don't even have my correct legal name. I am not going to sign the offer letter but I needed to sign the separation letter. I reached out to FIS HR to have them correct my name. The response was (I kid you not) "Oh, that doesn't matter. It's fine if it's your nickname".
The timeline to make this decision is criminal. They are trying to force employees to sign the offer letter in a panic because nobody has had time to do due diligence in making a decision. I am lucky in that I don't have any dependents. Most people have financial obligations that preclude them from declining the offer.
Our immediate managers who are staying don't care - the mantra is "nothing will change". For them - no. The stock will go up; all those people will get richer.
I don't like the fact that I am leaving this company where I have worked for 20+ years with nothing but bitterness and rage.

I just cannot bring myself to sign either the end of employment or the Cognizant on boarding. Only one day left to decide. This is my 30th year. I don't know how they can legally call this a voluntary resignation when it is anything but. I am sickened.
