Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Are they really going to lay finance workers off right before the holidays?

We have families and kids that depend on us. Everyone’s all worried and it’s impossible to find a decent job in this economy.

Damn it. They have no empathy. And all the available jobs su-k and are pay cuts.

@OP Why would finance workers be any different to the rest of us? Their timing is to clear the decks for the new FY, and finance folks as much as anyone should be aware of that. It isn't pleasant and with the current jobs market it will force the majority to take a big (30-40%) salary cut in order to remain in employment. This is unfortunately the climate for many at this time of year and it isn't limited to Verizon. Following the announcements today, it is highly likely that many companies will jump on the bandwagon to announce their own cuts whilst avoiding scrutiny due to the fallout from Verizon.
The only advice, that you will find in lots of other posts, is to get your network moving, circulate your CV and generally start the looking for a job NOW. Even if you are not affected, you need to be out there. You can always turn down a prospective company, and maybe even suggest one of your colleagues if you are not let go. The main thing is you need to be a the head of the queue with your CV and knocking on the doors. Don't leave it, because there are plenty behind you that will be reaching out and if you have to start looking later then the good roles may have already gone. Remember, don't be the victim, be the hunter!

VZ does this every single year before Thanksgiving... just not to this scale. It's always sick and wrong. Why would VZ suddenly care now?

The message is clear and was clear last year when they pushed 30% of the folks out the door with VSP, Verizon has never cared about their employees, only shareholders. If I don't get cut, I still think I will move my line to TMO or AT&T, cause if they don't care about us, why should we care about them?

Schulman, and these capitalists who subjugate and exploit for furthering their own narcissism accrual, should be labeled as what they are. Mentally ill.

@OP I can’t imagine doing that to one person, meanwhile this man is affecting 15,000 people plus their families right around the holidays. And I guarantee he’s sleeping soundly each night. Sick. And for the people staying just remember this company doesn’t give a f—k about you. So working overtime or not using your sick time or ki-ling yourself everyday bc you’re overworked, just remember they do not care. You give your all and you’re still just a number to them.

It’s so heartless. That’s what they should be plastering in the news. “VERIZON LAYS OFF 15,000 employees just in time for Christmas!” It’s truly so sick.
