John Stankey's Luxurious Lifestyle

So from what we can tell, John Stankey lives right near Highland Park, which is basically the Beverly Hills of Dallas, TX. He gets driven to the Dallas Downtown HQ, which is a 15 min drive for him - but typically 45+ min for his employees. He gets the closest covered parking available at the firm - but most employees either have to take public transportation or pay for parking further from the building and either take a shuttle or walk amongst the homeless.

If you have ever wandered onto the 4th floor where the executive team works, the floor looks instantly and noticeable different than the 34+ floors in Whitacre tower. The floors are covered in artisan Italian tiles. The walls are outfitted with art deco paintings. Chairs, couches, and flooring are plush leather and carpeting. While there are no public pictures of Stankey's office, he did an interview with Sal of Khan Academy from his office during COVID - which shows a rare view of his office. He even mentions towards the end of the interview the importance of setting healthy boundaries with work in order to be successful and tend to all the areas of your life such as relationships, family, and health.

As you would expect, his office has a sleek executive desk, plush leather chairs, floor to ceiling windows, and even an own lobby for his office! Yet, we are thrown to work on the rest of the floors that look like they are straight out of a 1990s Manhattan skyscraper - economical carpeting, average desks, plastic ergonomic chairs, old computer peripherals, and paint peeling off the walls.

Guys - always remember - this guy only cares about himself. Only the best that money can buy for himself. Nothing but the worse for everyone else.

@a5 Yes, one of the largest indebted corporations in the world, but other CEOs are making $40 million a year so he should too. We don't want anyone being outdone are shamed for making less than the going rate. That is the attitude of corporations now, its not based on performance. Corporations treat CEOs like kings for laying off employees, taking their benefits, and stealing their pensions.

"Wasn’t the C suite previously on floor 23 or something? They moved execs to 4th and 5th because the 5th floor is the highest floor accessible by Fire Dept in case of emergency. Anything higher cannot be reached via ladder. Safety first."

This is correct.

@pg John Stankey made $26+ million last year. That's approximately $100,000 per each work day of 2024.

He probably has a personal stylist for his wardrobe alone. No way his clothes came from any place less than NorthPark or Highland Park Village.

I wonder if he buys his Christmas “Jammie’s” at the Galleria, or at Marshall’s in Addison?

I wonder if the execs ever carpool together from their Park Cities neighborhoods to the downtown office? I imagine there would be some pretty interesting conversations during that ride!

@as I do love that John posts here. Sorry Johnny, anonymity is the great equalizer. You have no power here. The truth is bad for your ego, so you may want to go back to surfing Bloomberg for more puff pieces about your new "tough guy" culture.

If John Stankey doesn't allow you to work on floor 4, try working on a higher floor in the building. According to Feng Shui, higher floors are generally seen as beneficial because:

  1. Being on Higher Ground Reduces Negative Energy
Working on higher ground distances you from the heavy, chaotic energy at street level - things like traffic, noise, and constant human movement - create a calmer and more stable environment in Feng Shui terms.

  2. Smoother, Healthier Qi Flow - On higher floors, qi is less obstructed by pollution, dampness, and stagnant air that accumulate closer to the ground. This allows energy to circulate more smoothly, supporting balance and well-being.

  3. Stronger Yang Energy from Sunlight - Elevated levels typically receive more natural light. In Feng Shui, sunlight embodies yang energy which brings vitality, uplifts mood, and harmonized the living or working space.

By being on higher ground, these three give you less negative energy, smoother qi, and stronger yang light.

Stankey, McElfresh, JVB, Desroches, and the other executives live mostly in Highland Park, University Park, Bluffview, and Preston Hollow. Entry level homes here start at $2 Million. No way they are going to ditch the Downtown commute for Far North in Frisco or Plano. That's like double the commute for them, and then they have to see middle-class suburbia.

@d4 don’t forget the vomit on the streets, the harassment, the asking you for anything while you are trying to run to the building, and don’t forget the dr-gs.. this is the HQ environment where Stanley invested millions so it can look like we are doing AI and future innovations 😂

To the CO person:
Yeah that’s a network thing. They are going to make us recycle toilet paper sooner or later. Even the network office workers in the hubs have the worst of the worst floors and accommodations. It’s pretty obvious when you visit any other BUs floor and their stuff is a lot nicer. Not to mention they are always doing activities and events for their groups, yet we don’t even get a box of doughnuts for employee appreciation (maybe if someone buys it in their own dime and brings it in, which is what happened last time). Yet we put in the most hours, have the lowest pay bands, and have the toughest jobs.

The walk from the parking garage is dangerous. Homeless people everywhere, pi-s & po-p all over the sidewalks, cracks & extremely uneven pavement that requires focus on every step or you can twist an ankle. It's b.s.

I have a 2.5 round trip commute every single day. Can't move closer to the office because the housing market su-ks and interest rates are sky high.

And to the a--hole that will say "yet you stay".... I am working on getting out so FU-K OFF!

@cn you have the wrong meds or you are not familiar at all with RTO. Your CO situation is very similar to most RTO locations except maybe the HQ building where “he” has its luxuries. Don’t fall into his marketing lies. That’s exactly what he hopes you to believe because he wants division among mgmt and craft. This is the time to stick together, not against each other.

@ar you are spot on.
He manages to lies well to customers, investors, the board, the press, media. just compare the luxurious outdoor looking of HQ and his floor (all marketing propaganda) vs the conditions where L1-L2 and craft work daily.
He manages the company exactly like a dictator in a non democratic country.
And yes, we are napkins to him, he said so in other words, and he is proud of it.

Remember a big reason for RTO was to boost the egos of the execs and make them feel like
Big Swinging D!cks again. Thats what Stankey’s office is all about.

Used to work for a well-known company where all the c-levels except for HR and finance had cubes like everyone else (HR and finance had offices because of the sensitivity of the work). I believe they are still remote or at minimum hybrid.

Get over it he earned and deserves it just like other companies. If you had the brains instead of comparing you make it sound like he has no stress when carries the biggest and is always looking out for his employees and oh yes the shareholders which are the most important. If you are comparing then go flip burgers or ask paper or plastic for your groceries. You are the breed of do called complaining so just retire or get inline for the best future yet to come to this company, but don’t sit back and complain.

@ap So your saying that John Stankey worked or sacrificed to get where he is? He cost AT&T $50+ billion through bad business decisions. And instead of taking responsibility, he shifted the blame to employees, and the employees got burned by his mistakes. He is no less than any world dictator - Kim Jung Un, Vladmir Putin, Mu--olini - except he is ruling over a corporation instead of a government.

These guys retain control by propaganda, censorship, control of information, suppression of opposition, fear, and repression. Was his response to the employee survey any different? Those that remain loyal to him (even though he says he is shifting away from loyalty) and his new direction will stay and be promoted. Those that disagree will stagnate and eventually quit or get surplussed.

@ak What’s the “issue with the wealth gap”? Why are you comparing yourself to the CEO of a major corporation? You are not that, didn’t work or sacrifice to become that, so why would you think you deserve what he has? Be happy with what you have, or make a change in your own life.

Not unique to Stankey.

Wealth gap is the issue (and historically has always been the issue) while us peasants keep blaming, hating, and fighting each other.

Many posts on this forum resemble that comment 😢

@a5 That logic is not valid. If the CEO of one of the largest corporations in the world is expected to have a lavish lifestyle, then what about the employees of said largest corporation? Because we currently get treated like disposables napkins.

@a5 I don’t buy that “telecommunications giant” cr-p. Based on how under-invested the offices are here in Dallas, especially the suburb office - I feel like I am working at a mom and pop shop. It’s fu--ing pathetic.
