Large number of people are not criticizing layoffs. There is very little lament, or for that matter - very little anger...
What I see here is MANY Citi employees just asking whether we can stop anticipating layoffs, whether a meeting means something, and whether this or that area is next.
That's a sad place to be at. I feel defeated.
This happens in the Risk Management Dept. every day.
MDs and Directors try to squeeze out info and knowledge out of their employees, while they conspire to choose who's getting the Layoff Axe 🪓.
I've Never fallen for their subterfuge and pretexts.
Always stall, and do the 4 D's. Play Dvmb, Deny, Delay, Defend.
NEVER dig your own grave by helping anyone!
I've been with city for over 30 years. And in that time i've seen many changes. I survived many scary layoffs. But this is different. This is not because of a bad economy. This is a takeover by artificial intelligence. The artificial intelligence that we have no choice but to train to take over our jobs. I feel trapped. I'm trapped by my severance and my pension. I have no choice but to train this thing , and then when it's done with me , it will kick me to the curb. Its a terrible feeling to be used and know you're gonna be thrown away at any time.
hey, let’s keep firing the competent Americans from real accredited colleges who can write and speak properly and eloquently and do competent work in exchange for the cheap labor from people who can’t write emails, complete work on time, or have any idea on how to make their emails make ANY SENSE AT ALL even though they have access to AI to rewrite their emails. That makes sooo much sense for a Fortune 500 company who brags about their increase revenue.
What is the point of criticism or anger? Anyone who could make changes knows how we feel, and they simply don't care.
I'm here (and not at 388 today) because I want a RIF package, looking for hope. Give me hope.

@aa the low attrition is a real concern so your escenario is real and not hypothetical.
It makes you wonder, are they intentionally creating this environment to lure people into quitting? Because an employee who quits saves a lot of money on severance.
@OP Citi breaks people. Specifically, Citigroup's kafkaesque bureaucracy destroys all motivation, pride, and joy for work. Part of me wished I had been laidoff yesterday.
