I know this is an older post and it probably doesn't mean much to anyone, but NO ONE IS SAFE! I'm sorry but Vena making the pledge of "jobs for life" doesn't mean much when it comes from him. If the merger goes through, then what would stop him from consolidating locations into one and eliminating excess positions? NOTHING! If the merger goes through, then what would stop him from consolidating separate jobs into one? NOTHING! The jobs for life pledge doesn't mean sh1t! The merger application already got denied as incomplete. Now, they're supposedly filing again before April 30th. That's two months away and that's plenty of time to eliminate more positions. There's already been some rumblings at the director and senior director levels of eliminating positions before the April application deadline. Do not trust Vena or the executives whatsoever! Neither himself or his executives have been honest about anything at the UP. Jobs are still going to be lost, so DO NOT let your guard down with the Jobs for life agreement BS. He's only saying that to polish the UP image and he's going to find ways to further reduce headcount regardless of promises or agreements he's made.
@a3 he isnt making rules to get ya fired..... he's having these managers coach ya on every tiny possible rule they can.... walk to close to ties.... rule broke.... dont walk exactly 90 degrees rule broke.... dont pause and look before getting off when you just got on that same spot.... rule broke.... dont say a million things to shove cars.... rule broke....
Nobody is safe in Mechanical with Jeremy and Grace trying to run the department. Or should I say ruin it. Inexperienced and big egos.
I do agree not one of us is ever safe while under the current regime, but the UP has to maintain a fine balancing act to keep the regulators happy during this time. How bad does UP want this to go through? Could you imagine if they arbitrarily decided to shut down locations (I say that in a plural sense because they still might hit a spot that was planned) BUT, could you imagine just shutting several locations, laying off a thousand employees......it would essentially be a hard sell on regulators, and more questions from them that the UP would not want or need. Questions regarding how many jobs will be lost due to this acquisition, already a question asked, and answer was "no jobs lost". We all know jobs will be lost, but what happens AFTER the merger is a lot different than what happens BEFORE the merger, especially when you are religiously trying to prove that no jobs will be lost. Major jobs cut before a STB decision would not help them favorably......I think most of us are good for now (sure there will probably be the usually shenanigans here and there before hand)
It's not over.
@OP nobody is ever safe on jimmy shortlegs railroad. If he don't get you laid off he will make rules to get you that way
