Odd, considering 25 people were told today that they are being laid off, all in one department.

Absolutely false, if your leader is band 5, they are not apart of the decision. Layoffs are happening tomorrow.
@OP I have no idea what area you are in but can confirm that my department has 8 people being impacted tomorrow, 1/29. The senior management in your area my have different views but there will be people impacted.
