Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

This was a Good Layoff in IT - Long Overdue

Targeting the level 15 was long overdue. Most of them were promoted due to favoritism and not talented and do not contribute anything significant over a level 13.

Many of the grade 15 I knew were given LoP out of favoritism, failed many deliverables and instead of being put on PIP, was covered by their manager pulling corporate politics. The 15 were getting paid more than midpoint.

The majority of 15 in TOS are a serious waste of the department budget and I approve of them getting laid off and they won't be missed.

People rushed here to try to defend these grade 15s - look:

"people upset that they can't get to a grade 15"
"lot of people on this site who don’t seem to have an actual understanding on grade 15"
"I suggest a word of caution on those speaking globally for grade levels"
"your assessment of people in that grade does not align with folks in that grade (15) that I’ve encountered in my organization."

So why the company didn't think you guys was worth another paycheck? Checkmate...

Not sure where eveyone posting here is from but we struggle to get decent applicants at even grade 14. 14-15 is the norm for reasonably experienced devs. Now with hiring at max 90% of mid, it’s even harder to get sub-15s.

I think this comment stems from people upset that they can't get to a grade 15 level, either from lack of skill or lack of business acumen. Whoever made this post is obviously struggling in their field. Hang in there, but don't hate on your fellow coworkers.

@ap very well said!

There seems to be a lot of people on this site who don’t seem to have an actual understanding on grade 15 (how this specific grade got targeted is beyond me). When actually hired appropriately this role is a hybrid of leadership and individual contributor skills. They can function in rooms with high level leaders. They can be a leadership support with the team, and they perform individual contributor work at a skilled and high level. If this isn’t what you all are seeing, don’t label everyone as a high paid waste. Essentially this role often does the job of leadership and IC, on and IC pay.

Is 15 considered a high pay grade in TOS or something?

When someone is managing people that takes up all their time. You still want high level, specialized individual contributors who aren't dealing with a ton of people management imo.

@am thank you, mine either. And I suggest a word of caution on those speaking globally for grade levels when they only have a fraction of a window they are looking through!

@OP I don’t know what your particular circumstances are however, your assessment of people in that grade does not align with folks in that grade that I’ve encountered in my organization.

Exactly. How much is CEO and MC making during all of this?

This is a hilarious thread from an HR perspective. Keep battling among the peasants to take heat off the MC making millions. Complaining about your fellow coworkers... embarrassing and out of touch

@a9 yup, promoted G15 here and I’ve never worked harder in my life. The expectations to straddle the line of leadership and high performing work is insane. I’m held accountable and what was once exceeds expectations as a 14 is now mandatory of my role.

@a2 this corporate politics is older than hybrid. A real grade 15 is teaching, showing leadership, and stands out among other teams and business. The majority of level 15 are people with cushy role, favorably biased viewed by managers, and want to boss around 12-14 and take credit for other people work. And their compensation blocked the team from hiring better level 12-13 who can really help the team

Grade does not matter. If one is not doing their job effectively and relying on employment via boot-licking then they deserve to be canned.

I don't want anyone to lose their jobs but 15 and about in Toss is bloated. Useless goofs who know very little, with few management skills. A-s kissing is their only hobbies. They seek to destroy worker satisfaction and happiness. Millions can be saved eliminating the useless Toss levels.

Can you speak more on this? Were they hybrid or did they finally get a bad review.
Hearing a lot about grade 15 plus as part of this layoff. I am 15 and hybrid. Good review in 2025.
