Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Follow the Work Letter Information

Please post any information you have on the Follow the Work letter such as what type of information is included and what it asks you to do.

What locations does it list as your new office address? How much times does it give you? Have your teammates received one?

Serious responses only please. This is to help others and myself understand what is going on at T.

Hi. Just to clear up the whole COBC comment, that is flat wrong. You may say "yes' to move and opt against it at any time. You can not be terminated for changing your mind but you will find yourself in the surplus list. Whether or not you are eligible for severance is another story.

In any case, I would never recommend moving for a position with this company. Yes, a job is important but remember, this is at&t we're talking about. They do not care about us. Whether you sit in Plano or Frisco or downtown, you are still surplus-ready. AT&T is overstocked when it comes to employees. Even the bootlickers and shills get axed. It doesn't matter. In fact, in the new AT&T, you can bet that simply being a cheerleader or a head-nodder will not be enough. You need to be a thinker and a producer. We are not in a good place. Fiber and mobile are not enough to sustain a company of this size. We need ideas. Being stup1d but agreeable is not enough. Having an accent is not enough.

If you are prepared for the tough road ahead and feel that you and your significant other (where applicable) are employable in the market you're moving to, great. Take the move if that is where you want to live. if not, you have a hard decision.

Do you move for a company whose market focus is on mobility and remote solutions while being unwilling to walk the walk? Look, the longer you stay, the more you look unwilling or unable to leave. That never looks good on a resume. Think for yourself, if you can.

@cd
Same here. We have 4 who work from home. I think they are supposed to come in 1 day each month but never do and no one cares. They don't contribute to the team at all. We've stopped asking our manager because she defends them.

Most people that I know that got the letter and then moved are no longer with the company. The letters always go one way: Dallas. I know someone that got told to move to Dallas even though her whole team was in Atlanta. She was able to get an exception to move to Atlanta, but yeah, they all get told to go to Dallas. That’s the only real hub. Everyone else is just on a different timeline before they get told to go to Dallas or else.

I just do not get it as so many working virtual or at a non-hub still. Why are some singled out and others are not? Do not tell me those not singed out are high performers as we have many in our org and they are not as they say the cream of the crop.

@aw "This is absolutely a COBC violation."

Then simply provide the link. COBC has to be written.

"This is a complete violation of the COBC. Do better!"

Really, show us all the statute. Provide the link.

“If you get one of these letters I would say that you’ll move and begin looking elsewhere since that buys you the most time/pay.” This is a complete violation of the COBC. Do better!

This is exactly what I did, and they gave me virtual before my date.
Sc--w ‘em’ is what I say.

OP: If you are an employee of T and in position to get a letter, you will. Why are you on this site asking for detailed info? Troll post

@am “Do better”
Really? The leaders of this company reap what they sow. Over the last few years, with their words and actions, they have made it very clear that they view employees as the enemy.
We will do better when “leadership” does better. Until then, everything is fair game.

My cube buddy and her team got one last month. She had two weeks to say yes or no. The letter essentially said you are being offered a new job in Dallas, if you choose to follow the work. Seriously said new job offer- talk about getting ghosted. She had to report asap or by September 1st at the latest. Also from what I remember if they accepted or decline, there was no going back as it would put them at risk of losing their severance if they said yes but then changed their intentions. The letter stated if you decline, you will be put on a surplus list at a later date TBD. Her boss already told last week her final day on payroll will be July 31st as surplus notices will be going out in June. On the upside she is retirement eligible and getting 3 plus months to find another job.

This is absolutely a COBC violation. This is why you will be fired with no severance and have your employment record flagged as not able to be rehired.

@am Sorry to break it to you but it’s not a violation, bootlicker, CWA troll. (Not like it matters anyway once you have another job lined up)… If the company doesn’t want this to happen then they should just go back to normal layoffs instead of playing stupid games. It’s as simple as saying “My intention was to move, but I was offered another job and I’ve decided to accept it”.

@am no it’s not at all lol. This is how “at will” employment works.

You will get the letter and have a month or so to respond whether you’ll move or not. If you say no then your management will determine off payroll timeline, if you say yes then you typically have around 6 months to move. That’s what I’ve seen anyway. Could be different for others.

They’ll tell you that they hope you decide to move, but they really don’t. If you get one of these letters I would say that you’ll move and begin looking elsewhere since that buys you the most time/pay.
