Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I'm not even stressing anymore

Let’s be honest, who here wouldn’t be better off working somewhere, anywhere else? The job market is scary right now, but that’s what severance is for. Being unemployed and looking isn’t as scary when you have enough money to get you through several months. Thinking like this has completely shifted my perspective on layoffs.

This is cope I agree. The market is miserable out here, I took 50% cut after over a year looking. Don’t underestimate his bad it is out there right now.

There is absolutely no way severance will prepare you for this job market. Even the max (12 months) likely isn’t enough. Most of the people I know let go have only just started to land something 18 months later. All have taken a 30-40-% cut and 90% were steps down.

Nah, it’s a healthy perspective of adaptation. The best job security is knowing you can afford a new one. Something you can also willingly prepare for.

I want to support and encourage you @op but depending on your role the job market can be pretty tough. What sounds like a decent amount of time (7 monthsish) might not be.

Don't be one of those people that "takes a break" after a layoff, go chase jobs asap. Especially if you are hiring on at any bigger corp, the red tape paperwork can be lengthy.

Also realize if you are in a big group layoff that your former coworkers may be competing with you for those jobs. So be first.

Hang in there.
