The idea of being laid off, or being stuck at Nike in this culture and environment for years to come? There was a time when this would have been a no-brainer. Now, I honestly can’t tell which I dread more. If the job market were any better, I’d embrace layoffs in a second.

So glad I didn’t move to Portland. In 2018, when Nike still had its game face on, it was a serious consideration, but even then the question was clearly, “where else would I work around there?” Being laid off absolutely categorically su-ks, but if you think the job market is bad now, don’t hold your breath. Get out before your hard skills atrophy any more than they likely already have. I’m a month removed now and my new gig has been an absolutely life changing experience. You can do it!
@a1 nailed it.
Why is this even a question? Being laid off is terrible.
Don't ask this if you have a job there, really. Please.
Not saying I don't understand your general intent because yeah it su-ks being "sole survivor around" but it su-ks 100 times more to get laid off.
Sometimes it’s better to go with The Devil you know than the one you don’t
If you want to leave, you’ve got to imagine yourself leaving Portland, too. Nike is the only game in town really. The good news is that there are lots of cool places to go!
@a1 agreed, if you’re looking to be cut, good luck find employment in Portland. God speed you don’t have finance backing either. I feel like people aren’t logically thinking if they’re asking to be cut… unless you’re on the verge of retirement
Being laid off. About half the people I know who were laid off in the 2023/2024. Cuts are still looking 12-18 months later, and those who aren’t took significant cuts to pay bills.
