Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Takis laughing and saying there is no job security in corporate America

If only there was a way we could address that as a society and not see ourselves as independent contractors...

Jeff Yabuki never laughed AT Fiserv employees for their misfortune/stress/anxiety. Lot of people know it for fact.

Even with an accounting background, not a techie , never would have said 'agentic agents' !!! He made sense when he spoke.

Some people have job security. It’s called a golden parachute. That’s why he can laugh about it.

@ag Maybe it's a generational thing, but I've never known employers to care about anything but their button line when it came to the bottom line. If they have to cut jobs and destroy lives to save a penny, that's what they're going to do. Not saying it's right, just saying this has been the way for as long as I can remember. And if you're smart, you'll make it a two way street. Strategically stack your resume and leave for more money every 3-5 years. This is how you get greater jumps in salary and how you advance in position. Heck, if you want to remain in the same position, switching companies usually result in higher salary increases than playing the loyal employee and settling for the 2-3% annual (if even that often) salary increases.

@OP Takis statement using this "no job security" in corporate america as a straw man argument to instead justify moving jobs to cheap offshore labor. This statement is insulting if you accept it. Its simple - Fiserv is a bottom feeder and cannot afford to pay the domestic labor force. Quite the contradiction as the primary customer base is domestic FINS in the US. Be selfish, Fiserv is. Be self-serving, prioritize yourself on all career aspects over this company. You loyalty is not needed apparently, work here at your own peril.

@ab "your reward or satisfaction will come from the work you put into the organization/team"

Does satisfaction pay my mortgage? How about even just a cost of living salary adjustment instead of an effective pay cut?

@af I mean you don't see the problem? The fact that employees can be chewed and sp-t out on a whim, there is no loyalty between employee and employer. It was never like this before. You could work for the same employer for decades and layoffs were a rare occurence. Now it's embedded in everyday life which does nothing but fuel the underlying anxiety and precarity of workers. Just because that's how it is today does not make it right. Employers have too much power.

@OP I thought this was understood. Where's the shock? This is at will employment. Anyone of us can be out of here for any reason not prohibited by law.

Be loyal only to yourself, your loved ones and your ambitions. Figure out what those ambitions are and maneuver your time and efforts accordingly.

Always keep the LinkedIn and resume updated and circulating. Entertain every conversation with a recruiter even if not interested in the opportunity. You'll at least be able to glean what's out there and stay abreast of how interview practices are evolving.

None of the previous CEOs ever BSed us about the matter. This is and will continue to be American corporate culture.

There is more security when you have a competent executive management team, not a group of pirates. LOL But agree, build your transferable skills and do what is best for you. Perform the best you can, but be loyal to yourself, not a company. Always be looking for a better opportunity.

@OP There really isn't anything to address. It's a factual statement because we are not under contract in most parts of the globe. He was being transparent and real in his style and way of communicating. I would offer this. Take the message in a positive way meaning go work hard, do great work for the clients and customers in your area and your reward or satisfaction will come from the work you put into the organization/team etc. Don't let a CEO's statement tarnish your light because it's simply a statement of reality.
