Is it ideal? No. Is it better than a lot of places right now? Yes. If you've taken half an hour of your day to brows available jobs, you'd know how cr-ppy the job market is right now. Having a relatively safe job with a decent pay at this moment is more than many others have. As I said, this place is far from perfect, but let's get some perspective.

@av HR or PGA plebs trying to justify their existence.
I wish Exxon would quit hating HC10 employees so much
@a7 I really doubt XOM invests in natural gas. They have shown a hatred towards natural gas assets up to this point and sold off the majority of them. I’ve always wondered how it makes good business sense to sell something that still has a bunch of resources in the ground.
I wish people would hate on Exxon more
@OP I wish you mind your own business. Kissing as--s
It is all about cash flow. If you are "laid off" at age 52, you and your family is no longer eligible for long term ExxonMobil healthcare benefits post-retirement at age 55.
We need Rex Tillerson back
Sometimes when people say they hate the company, what they're really expressing is frustration with their own situation, career, expectations, or life in general. It's easier to blame the company than to admit you're unhappy. The company becomes a convenient target for feelings that started somewhere else.
OP, sure, it’s all fine and dandy until they PIP you out at age 52. Sure, mom was right, life’s not fair. But we should all be as vocal as possible speaking out against bait and switch tactics and pension stealing.
XOM has to plan for the future as its two prime assets Permian and Guyana are both showing signs of depletion. XOM will pivot to gas and LNG. Shell has realized this with the purchase of a Canadian natural gas producer with direct access to Asia. In the past XOM and it’s fearful employees were a quiet cult now the market and speculators front run and influence like never before.
Keep playing your work place games and complex acronyms…it’s fun to watch…the speculation crowd wants movement and profits
The relatively safe…. I want to put emphasis on relativity of your job safety. How safe your job really is? Plenty of topics here proving that it’s not safe and it’s a one year contract (yes your full time job is one year contract now) because of forced ranking system.
Unless you're in IT, the market isn't that bad.
I looked around last month and found a job that pays more $ with better benefits!
In addition to that, they have a clear salary and promotion process (not a hidden matrix that HR hides and slows down without communicating it to you) and new-role application process!!
I guess if you're the kind of person that it takes too much effort to look around, and you would rather settle for so-so job at a faceless corp where you have no real chance for progression... then, yes, EM is the place for you!
If not, LOTS of other opportunities out there!
